Thought he let the game flow much better than the likes of Hicks and Kendall who can't stop blowing the whistle. Of course, refs are always better when you score 50 !
On last night, also thought Lui played really well on the right, encouraging but HKR were definitely playing after the Lord Mayor's show last week.

Was there a ref on the field? Never noticed him. Really good.

| Quote ="marathonman"As someone previously mentioned Luke Gale is by far the best we have had at half back for a long while.Having said that I am happy to see the much maligned Richie Myler in the 17 too, I think he is a good player and would like to see him as starting hooker for the time being,
Finally I think the club ( was it KS ? ) was justified in off loading Mitch Garbutt, spends far too much time on the treatment table, I liked him but you wonder if his heart is really in it'"
It's not his heart that isn't in it it's his knees that aren't in it.
Always sad to see a decent player struggle because of recurring injuries. That said, Leeds did the right thing at the right time in offloading him.
What's the score with Ava's knee? It's always been heavily strapped. Is that precautionary or is that an ongoing issue he has?

| Much better albeit against limited opposition. Simple changes make a big difference, a proper winger on the right wing, Newman and Smith in their correct positions with the latter playing as an extra pivot, a controlling half back, a hooker who didn't go himself too much and 4 props rotating.

| Really happy with that, looked a different team. Some proper children on hear with the 'its quiet' posts. Agar got it wrong against Hull with Newman on the wing and more importantly the light bench, people were rightly frustrated. He got it right last night so well done to him and the team, lets enjoy the good win and hope it continues.
Cam Smiths quality and always has been, good on Agar for trusting him in his natural position. need to sort Cams new contract out sharpish.

| I enjoy watching Gale's kicking there's a lot more variety and intention rather than just a half-hearted bomb or kick to touch we've had for years. I hope he stays fit, if so he'll have a good season.
In regards to the Agar posts, I think yesterday was a good win but I still don't think Agar is the man to move us forward. A win here and there isn't what we need. He still feels like a stop-gap appointment.

| Great result yesterday and evidence that in key positions the club is better placed than 12 months ago.Considering that potentially the clubs first choice hooker and both back rows were missing there are real positives to take moving forward. The quality of the opposition obviously needs to be taken into account but I don't expect a relegation battle this year. When assessing the first 2 games it is clear in the bigger tests Leeds ability to compete will be measured on metres made up front on attack and quality of defence limiting opposition go forward. When we win this battle in a game Gale supported by Smith and Lui will manage a game in a manner Leeds have not had for a couple of years. Need to keep 2 front row options on the bench and play people in their correct positions in the backs. Check out Briscoe metres stats I think he deserves a run of 5/6 games and then people can fairly assess his potential at super league level

| I think last year early season we lost some games we really should have won ,even though we weren't that good. Heads must have gone down . That London game was a real sickener

| Not wanting to be a doom and gloom merchant but just a perspective.
Against a good team we got steamrolled and against a poor team we walloped them.
Last night we were good right across the park but it was against a team we really should be beating if we even have mid table aspirations.
Against better teams we won't have it as easy.
Let's take the many positives but not get too carried away.

So in perspective we are not up to it against potential top 3-4 sides but way too good for bottom 3-4 sides. That would put us 5-6 place i’d take that after last few seasons. Thats a good upward curve.

The thing is we cant read anything into how the whole year will go on last nights game anymore than we can from the Hull game which was my point when counteracting the people who seemed to write the season off after one game.
What I will say is yes Hull KR didn’t look great (bearing in mind some were heaping praise on them last week) but we did, there was a lot of movement and the younger players really stood up, lets just take it for what it was, a very good team performance and for once an enjoyable night at Headingley which have been in short supply recently

That's fair tbh but just on that 1st game we looked a million miles away which should be unacceptable if our climb back into contention is starting this year.

And last night we didn’t look a million miles away.
We’ll win some and we’ll lose some, that will always be the case when rebuilding, bear in mind against hull we lost our Marquee player and Captain early on, which seemed to coincide with us losing any momentum and our best prop was out.
Us fans tend to place too much on certain games as I say neither last nights game nor the on against Hull mean anything in terms of how we will go this year, its a long season and there will be a fair few twists and turns

| I think our pre season win at wigan may have given us a false sense of security and the JJB/Burrow game must have been a distraction. The Hull game gave us a kicking and we've responded in the way you would want and probably in a way we couldn't have done 12 months ago.
Still think we need a big nasty prop as I think our back 3 are a little light and possibly an outside back with some real pace. I think if we can fill those gaps and have some luck with injuries we could have a decent season.

| All of a sudden Luke Briscoe is the 2nd coming , well yes he had a fantastic 1st half , but against garbage opposition . He is no more than a back up winger . The one outstanding performer was Cam Smith , always looking to take the ball up , great offloading and does the defensive work of two men . What pleased me even more was the expansive play and dummy runners with loads of options . Better than i expected but lets put it in to perspective , Hull K.R. will probably finish in the bottom 2 so the next 2 games will show us more where we are at .

| Brisco kick returns were a highlight and put us in the front foot all night, not sure why they persisted in kicking to him as whatever game plan they had was not working. Thought Handley showed great pace for his try up the middle from a great break and pass from Newman. KR came back a little for the 2nd try and if I'm not mistaken that was while Pryor was off the field, he looks solid without being eye catching but we are better with him on the field rather than off. Still plenty to work on and I still see us being a mid table side. What I really want from this year is to look forward to games and enjoy them and not dread going like last year

Maybe it was a case of doing too much homework - Briscoe failed to handle two chips to the corner playing for Fev at Batley last week, one of which led to a try. He's always been pretty good at kick returns and in exit sets though.

| Good performance on the back of a poor one against Hull.
Smith and Newman top two players and Ava showing why we need him on the field alongside someone similar.
Next week if Ward's fit straight swap for Sutcliffe.
Walters and Holroyd should both be ahead of Sutcliffe.
The league looks open this year with only Hull and Wire looking better than the others.

| Good win but like has been said got to put in perspective Hull KR were a side we should be beating at home and nowhere near their form the week before but a near 50 point win is welcome.
Watching the other teams so far i think Wigan have a lot to do to get near their expected top 4 push they look a very average team to be honest. Toronto are going to struggle, Salford and Huddersfield both average. Can see Hull, Warrington and Saints pulling away and scrapping for the silverware on early evidence and the rest of the ladder is up for grabs a bit like last year.

Pretty hard to disagree with this, good view of where things are currently.
I don't see us as top 3 but if we can be consistent and get some much needed luck with injuries we can be in the mix with Wigan, CAS and Catalan for a top 4 - 6 finish and then see what happens.
Long way to go obviously but the league feels quite open so far.
