I'd be very happy to see Watkins take over from Senior, and feel we need to bring someone of proven international class in from outside to solve the right centre position because Lee Smith seems more of a winger or fullback to me than I think he ever will be as a centre. He lacks the size and skill in releasing other players to ever be a top centre, IMHO of course.

That's why you and I remain clueless fans and not uber coaches like coach McClennan.

Flannery is a pretty ordinary player. Sort of an Aussie Sinfield without the goalkicking and being more of a tackler than playmaker.

I would imagine he will be taking up the space left by Cunningham's retirement or final year on a much reduced salary.

Of the youngsters that Wigan have let go how many of these are actually taking SL by storm? There seems to be an obsession with bringing through players from the academy regardless of quality/suitability - surely the owners should be recruiting the correct standard of player regardless of their source.

There is no point wasting valuable/expensive training resources on players simply because of an obligation to field a reserve side - if the coaches do not believe the players have the potential to reach the required standard they should be moved on - harsh I agree but this is elite professional sport.

You look at some of the players in the Leeds reserve grade they are no nearer the first team than they were three years ago so why are we continuing to spend valuable resource on these players?

Saints seldom let seriously talented youngsters go - their side has as home raised players as Leeds - what they do well and why they have been the most consistently successful side in the SL era is to integrate these players with the correct quality/style of overseas/British players. At the moment they appear to have a the strongest pool of youngsters coming through but they know they have to recruit quality too.
