So would you rather a host of penalties and a much slower stop/start game? Its the players who constantly abuse this - how many six agains happen on the first tackle of a set?

100% better than previous games but to lose a 10 point lead with 3 minutes to go is disheartening.

I think people get confused with the 1st tackle ones. A lot of them are the ref indicating its a 7 tackle set cos of a knock on or a kick gone dead and not actually an infringement.

I disagree - most of the six agains are deliberate infringements to enable unfit players to get back into position - these need treating as professional fouls IMO

The frustrating thing with the 6 again rule is that the referee wouldn't give a penalty half of the time, but to wave 6 again is an easy option for the officials imo. Also when it happens on the 1st tackle, the team in possession would be much better off with a penalty than 1 extra tackle on there own line.

Conversely they would be much better off with the six again if they were inside the opponent's 30 - swings and roundabouts. Greater use of sin binning would stop this - its cynical and does the spectacle of the game no favours

Nice to see Tetavano earning his coin on Hudds 2nd last try, the deflection off Bentley floats right past him, absolutely no effort to catch it, hits the deck, try time.

The NRL amended the rule for this season:

"The NRL has confirmed a significant change to the controversial six-again rule for the 2022 season.

According to NRL.com, instead of a set-restart, a penalty will be awarded if a team commits a ruck infringement or has a player or players inside the 10 metres while “inside the 40 metre zone of the team in possession”.

It comes after teams repeatedly exploited the six-again rule in 2021, delaying the ruck and deliberately being off-side early in the tackle counts."

Also seen a few sin binnings when teams have given a number of restarts away in quick succession

Bentley 3 offsides, 2 penalties, 66 metres, 3 missed tackles, in comparison to Martin 2 offsides, 139 metres, 0 missed tackles.
Matt Prior 3 carries for 13 metres!! Tetevano 101 metres.
Mellor 106 metres, 1 missed tackle vs Briscoe 56 metres, 4 missed tackles. Even Mellor is a better centre than Briscoe.
Leeming 29 tackles, 8 misses.
No idea this stuff was available.

How many tackles did Prior make in comparison to Oledzki and Smith?

Prior 25 tackles 2 misses
Oledzki 39 tackles 1 miss, also 135 metres
Smith 46 tackles 2 miss

Many that aren't doing near enough then even in an improved performance. Our pack is truly dreadful, that's appalling from prior.

Agree it’s a major issue. Sadly I think Prior has just hit the wall, was great in 2020 but looks pretty shot at the moment. You add in Holroyd injured, Tetevano hardly playing and no other genuine 5th prop and it looks a real mess.

Also shows week in and week out Smith topping the tackling count.
I know he has brain farts and gives away silly pens.
But maybe if others such as Prior and Leeming do their fair share then Smith might have some energy left that prevents him giving away those silly penalties.

Fair point, spreading the work around is vital, particularly over Easter.
