First of all I don't think Williams is an average Aussie, although out injured at the moment he's been getting good write-ups and has played at the highest level. A few years ago I remember when Gary signed another Manly winger there were some negative comments but he turned out a crowd favourite and one of our best signings. Secondly I'm not sure that Smith and also BJB will be with us next year so there culd be not a long list of players in front of Chisholm!

Williams is 'average' in the sense that he's probably midway down the pecking order of wingers in Australia today. He'd undoubtedly be better than most SL wingers, but is that what the side needs? Assuming a limited availability of decent signings, forwards ought to be priority, with Williams or any other winger way down the list.

TBH if Leeds sign Williams, it will look more like a shiny new signing to placate fans than a requirement to help rebuild the side.

That IS exactly why he will be signed.

Hetherington learned not to do that after Mullins and, to a lesser extent, Walker. I would be disappointed but perhaps not surprised if he went down that route again; OTOH I'm fairly sure our research into these players and what kind of attitude they have is rather more robust nowadays.

In an Aussie forum I read this morning it said David Williams was going to Wigan! So he might not be signing for us after all or the story might not be accurate.

Maybe GH has heard the Matt Lucas is a better all round performer than David williams and he's going for him instead.
