He may not be injured but he is not fit and looked very slow against Hull.

Just found wanting against a bigger more mobile Hull pack that had more depth & quality in it.

| If he's fit and not in trouble then Garbutt should be playing. Albert and JJB could do with a week off but we have no one to replace them with keinhorst at centre so Moon can stay at SO.

| That being the case then half the pack chosen tomorrow should not have made the 17.
Even after giving them a chance against Wakefield they still messed up.
He will probably drop Cuthbertson next for trying too many offloads.
Five drives and a kick is our tactic they are not paid to think outside the box.

| I seem to remember McDermott and Garbutt had a bit of a fall out last season too. I heard McD told Garbutt to ' go home' if he wanted to. Maybe he should and maybe McD should too.

Spot on but we can't let that get in the way of plucked out of the air nonsense rumours. Can't remember the last time someone missed a game and it wasn't down to McDermott failing out with the player apparently.

Ok I'll go along with that there's been a spat between him and Garbutt based on ALL the clear evidence we have.

| Confirmed by McDermott Golding left out due to below level of performance.
Yep kick the young lad and keep the old faves in the pack who have under performed far more so than Golding.
Not sure how many times McGuire and Briscoe have been dropped this season either.

| So Golding comes back from injury and after a couple of games has probably his best game of the season against Wigan. He then plays in one of the poorest team performances of the season the following week and gets dropped for being below par whilst the forwards who waved Wakefield players through all game retain their spots.
I'm sure that makes perfect sense somewhere.

| Can't say I'm fussed about Golding being dropped. He was arguably the worst player last week, and Walker has been breathing down his neck.
Yes, some of the forwards deserve to be dropped as well, but we're hardly blessed with much depth there at the moment with Garbutt, Galloway and Ferres injured. Plus, Golding doesn't have a decade worth of credit in the bank that the likes of Ablett and JJB be in particular have.

| How many bad performances does a decade of credit buy you? I'd say almost the whole of last year plus some very poor performances this year pretty much puts JJB, Ablett and Delaney in the same position as everyone else.

| what a cowardly thing.
drop a kid after one poor game, in which others were as bad, but ignore older players like Albert who's not played well in 2 years.
sooner he goes the better

| The way I see it, the competition for a place at fullback is v strong. With walker ready to step in (also in form- arguably in better form than Golding this year). And in McDermott's interview, the way I interpreted it, the decision was as much about giving walker his opportunity when the player in front of him isn't performing, than just dropping Golding for bad form.
The forwards were very poor last week, but who you gunna replace them with with all the injuries we have in those positions ? Ablett for Walters, JJB for baldwinson? Not for me.
And this then comes back to a bigger issue, our lack of strength in depth. But that's another thread
Also, unless I've missed something, this argument about McDermott falling out with garbutt and his players, all came from Frosties saying he can't help but think there's more to it, than just an injury? This may be true, but if that's all the evidence we're going on (one person's hunch-no offence to Frosties for throwing out an opinion) then other posters should be allowed to say they think it's nonsense.

How will he ever get a decades worth of credit in the bank if the first time he has an under par game he gets dropped?
McDermott has always been thus - he has favourites who he will not drop and that is the way it is - JJB was appalling on Thursday I suspect he would have to have 8-10 games of that standard before McDermott would even consider a change.
I suspect the major criteria to getting picked is your deference to the coach - which is a pretty sad state of affairs

| My one abiding memory of Golding at the Wakefield game ,is him trying to run the ball out from our own try line. Then facing a wall of Wakefield players who promptly smashed him back over our try line. Mission impossible ,even saint zac would have struggled under that scenario. At the Wakefield game he had virtually no support from his colleagues so it's sacrificial lamb time for him.

| The difference between Walker and some of the forwards is that he's actually shown he can step up, and we was probably unlucky to not not keep his place in the side when Golding was fit again. The other options in the pack are either injured or way off SL level, and have even struggled to make an impact at Championship level.
Also, JJB has performed well this season up until last week, so by the same 'logic' he'd have been unlucky to miss out this week after one bad game.
Sure, Ablett has struggled for over a year, but who can we pick instead? Keinhorst? Walters?
I also notice that McDermott has said Golding and Walker know that they're fighting for the number one shirt next year, good to see IMO
