But it wasn't just us fans was it, all the ex players and pundits and current players and coaches all predicted us to be up there challenging. Even Phil Clarke said we would get top 4.
In the first few months of the year all the top teams coaches were still saying that they wouldn't take us lightly and expected us to turn it round because we still had a lot of quality in the squad.

We clearly have a lot of quality in the squad. I expect us to be top 4 or very close to it depending on other teams seasons.

We still have 4 or 5 of the best individual strike players in the league in our backline, a very decent hooker and a back row that looks as good as anything in SL (except possibly Wigan). The only doubt will be the effectiveness of McGuire after an injury ravaged 2016.

I would still like us to bring in a tactician type 7 and perhaps swap one of our props for someone more dynamic, but with our current squad, anywhere less than top 4 OR a CC final is unacceptable for the coaching team.

The same people that go on about the quality in super league being shocking are the ones that make out like we have to overcome state of origin teams to get into the top 4. Despite the tribulations of last season we still beat the CC winners and eventual champions towards the end of the regular season.

The truth is next season is a complete and utter unknown for us because of all the random factors last season which added to the loss of sinfield and peacock. We just don't know how the squad is going to develop in pre-season. After the end of a season you can hit the reset button and totally revamp things which you can't do mid season when things are going wrong. We don't know if any new combinations will be developed, or how much the younger players will improve.

It's overly simplistic to take the view that because there's been no massive change to the team from a personnel perspective it means last seasons form will be repeated.

Getting off to a good start could be crucial, more so than in years gone by due to how last season went.

Its no way the worst 17 but it lacks quality in the HB's & at least 1 linebreaking forward imo.

It doesn't matter what 17 we put out. If the attitude doesn't change we'll stink the place up again. Too many of our senior players have been shown to have the most fragile of temperaments, and when they were asked to show leadership in the absence of Sinfield and Peacock they waved the white flag instead.

I kind of agree with that, I think a good, winning start is essential for us this year.

Rumours in Aus that Cronulla are lining up James Segeyaro after losing Michael Ennis. That would be a blow if true, and it comes from Paul Gallen so someone who should know (and also know to keep his mouth shut...)

They knew they were losing Ennis some time ago seems a strange time to be trying to recruit such a key position?

Which probably points to Leeds running with the halves we already have for next year like McDermott alluded to.

Will this be "he is moving for an undisclosed fee as we did not want to stop him from leaving even though he was under contract to us".
Or "there was a clause in his contract allowing him to leave as soon as an NRL club came knocking".

Again if Leeds sign Lui the club and GH need to address the issue why GH says publicly some players arnt fit for SL but we are signing a convicted wife beater?

If we did sign him I will be going all out to get answers from the club directly. I will be disgusted if we sign him and will be sending all my merch directly to GH after I've wiped my ar$e on it.
