| Very brave or very stupid but good on him!
Is he still playing for Queens by the way? Was on the news last night and he was in hospital with a broken arm, said he did it playing amateur rugby but not who for. Played against him when he was at Queens a good few years back in the Yorkshire cup.

| Quote ="Lord God Jose Mourinho"I don't think a company like William Hills can be seen to promote this type of behaviour. Their policy would be that if someone is armed and demanding money, give them the money and let them walk away without any hassle. Then call the police and have them deal with it.
It's alright lauding Martin for doing this, but next week when someone else steps in to try and stop the robber and ends up with a bullet in his chest it's not going to look so bright.
If a person was being attacked then I hope that I would step in to stop an attacker. But I just don't see any sense in risking my own life for a handful of someone else's cash, a car, or a laptop. I know people have a go at the health and safety culture of today, but the guidelines over dealing with robbers is spot on.'"

You never know what you are gonna do in such situations until you are in them . '"
If you weren't such an idiot you'd have read that I hoped I would step in to protect someone from an attacker but I wouldn't hope to step in to stop a robber from taking money from a shop. If you weren't so thick you'd realise that I was acknowledging that you don't know how you'd react until you're in that situation.
But one thing's for sure, if everyone knows that William Hill's give a couple of grand for apprehending a robber, the amount of people who do try and stop a robber will be significantly higher than if the act was not rewarded.
Quote Woud you tackle an armed robber ?'"
I said I hoped I wouldn't. An armed robber is usually after a companies cash or high value items from a company. Why in hell should I risk my life to save a sack full of paper or some trinkets that are insured anyway. The company won't want their customers risking their lives to protect their insured items, the police will advise against going up against armed robbers, anyone with a brain would agree.
Quote Would you break your way into a burning house and rescue the family inside ?'"
I'd say probably not. If the family don't know how to get out of their own house when it's on fire, how would I know how to get them out? I'd hope I quickly called for the fire brigade and offered as much assistance as possible to ensure the family were saved, but I don't think that adding myself to the death toll would be a particular smart thing to do.
Quote Would you floor three muggers that tried to have your phone ?'"
I'd hope that I handed over the phone if there were three muggers and I was cornered. I'm not so up myself that I think I can take on three muggers who are probably armed, knew in advance what they were going to do and obviously outnumber me anyway.
Quote You can't say for sure until you are there . The last thing on your mind will be risk assessment .'"
The first thing on your mind will be a risk assessment you fool.
The three muggers, the risk assessment you're making is that you could get stabbed or severely beaten if you try and keep on to your phone worth a few hundred quid at most.
The risk assessment of the fire is that you are killed or severely burned while trying to save them.
The risk assessment of tackling the armed robber is that they shoot you or stick a knife in you.

I'm not judging Martin. I think it was funny that he tvvated the robber. I've forwarded the link to a couple of my friends to have a laugh at.
But judging from what he said in the interviews, that it was the attitude and way the robber spoke to him that made him stand up against him, I don't think taking a chair to someone who may have had a loaded gun pointed at him was a smart thing to do. If you watch the footage Martin and the other bloke didn't stay in the bookies all the time, they actually went out of the store and came back in again.
If the guy had been armed and shot him in the head, wouldn't trying to stop some weedhead from robbing a bookies have been a worthless way to die? Would the few hundred quid of William Hills money really have been worth putting your family and friends through the grief of his death?
IMO the lives of the cashier and the two punters in the store are worth infinitely more than William Hills money.
Of course what happens in the heat of the moment could mean someone acts instantly without thinking. But we're not in the heat of the moment and looking at the situation from the safety of a computer desk surely everyone should agree that challenging an armed robber is a stupid thing to do. I wouldn't want anyone I know to do it. I'd want them to do the sensible thing and let the robber to flee without challenge.
And back to the original point, I don't think that William Hills should be rewarding what he did, at least not publically. Maybe they should give him a grand or two in private and insist he keeps it quiet, but IMO they certainly shouldn't publicly reward him.

Risks assessments have long been thrown out of the window thanks to commercialism and the media humanising their products. For example do you think Samantha Webster-Connor would give up the car she married to armed robbers without a fight?
She has bonded with this car and a replacement simply wouldn’t be the same.
With money well if you’ve ever been on LSD money talks..

| I saw him playing for Woodhouse this season. He had that much padding and strapping that he could hardly move.
Obviously playing prop, he'd get the ball, practicially walk up to the line of defenders, start pushing them back one by one, getting a couple more yards, then doing these crazy offloads. It was surreal. In defense he was never 1st man in, probably because nobody would run at him. The first tackle of the game, he was 3rd man in, flopped on top of the tackle and punched the bloke in the back of the head.
