| I don't know why people are complaining about the signing off Michael Coady he is a Rookie Centre who has shown good ability and potential in the National League, He is young and IMO the signing even if he doesn't make it isn't going to effect Leeds Rhinos in a negative way so think positive and get behind the lad...

I'm not sure you can count Damo in the list.

I can remember when he was a youngster at Warrington being the subject of unwarranted attention in a local gym he frequented. IIRC it went to court.
Not much of a claim to fame from playing RL though.

| Cant believe some on here are unhappy with this, id love Wigan to be looking at young british NL players who are full of potential rather than average overseas players on short term deals. Well in Leeds i say.

| How does it leave the like of Mike Ratu and (I say, I say, I say) Ashley Gibson ?
Likewise Kallum Watkins has played most of his career at centre, inside Jodie Broughton ...

i was quite surprised he was kept this year, expect him to be on his way at the end of the year.
gibson mite get another year (but the chance have to be fairly small)

| I'm pleased the club is looking to sign emerging talent from the lower leagues. No idea how good he is, but I'd be pretty certain those who've watched him and signed him know what they're doing.
If he does turn out to be the next Keith Senior then great, if he doesn't the club hasn't really lost anything. Good luck to the lad.

| Youve got a good un in Coady or Da Vinci as we nicknamed him.Mainly played on the wing for us and as Donny has said in a previous post, when he pins the ears back he can shift for a big lad.None of the wakey mob could catch him when he went full length!
With full time training at your place trust me he will be a good player for you.

| Possibly suggests Smith and/or Gibson may well be leaving if they envisage him as a centre given that we have Senior for one more year and Watkins? I also assume that Ratu and Broughton will be leaving for good at some stage.
The only question I'd ask is if the lad is quick - big and strong is good for a centre, but lack of pace has stymied many a potential outside back.
Personally I have no problems with strengthening the squad in this way and hope he becomes a star.

| Sorry - just read the Broughton thread. Maybe we'll have Hall, Donald, Watkins, Senior plus Coady and Broughton in the wings (pardon the pun) with a view to Senior and Donald possibly leaving after next season? Is there any sign yet of Smith making it as a centre? Personally I think he's a full back pure and simple and regardless of what else he's going to struggle physically in the centres.

I agree with Smith been a full back and not a centre and personally i think he'll be on his way to Wasps at the end of the year and we'll have Watkins or Coady playing right centre next year and the year after when/IF Senior retires Watkins will play left with Hall and Coady will play right centre with Broughton cos Donald's contract will of expired. IMO of course.

| Interesting thead this with contributions from the usual suspects who don't even know life exists outside SL!!
I have seen him three times this season and if he's a future SL player in the making then I'm a Chinaman, I tell you something else as well, if he's work in progress then he will pretty much stay the player he is now, this coaching group could ruin Greg Inglis!!,
I think this signing smacks of "we had our pants pulled down on McNally lets not look like idiots again".

| Well done to the sleeve, bring him up steady and we could have a monster of a signing in two or three years time
better than signing an Aussie only intresteded in making a few pennies his retirement fund

That was based on last season mate. Can't say I've seen a great deal of this year but I rate Latu as a better hooker.

| Hi all, just thought I'd give an opinion on Mike Coady from a Bristol perspective.
When Mike arrived at the Sonics in 2006/2007, he had played no Rugby League, but was an England Students union international (I think he played for Loughborough's first team at union). He's a Bristol lad, so got in touch with us during his summer holidays and played about two thirds of the games in the 2007 season. He was always a talented lad - played centre for us and strengthened a back line that was pretty hit and miss. He scored a number of great tries for us and was excellent at releasing other backs - the wingers, our full back Dan, and so on. He was influential in getting us to our first ever Midlands Conference Grand Final. In that match he scored a try and set up several others as we won our first silverware. I have a DVD of the match somewhere so will try and rip some clips of him in action and stick them on Youtube.
His rise in the last 12 months has been meteoric. Whether he has what it takes to make the step up to Super League remains to be seen, but the Rhinos should be congratulated on taking a punt on someone like Mike. I'm sure with the right conditioning and training he can prove an asset. It will take a year or two though, so be patient. From memory he is quick, strong and has great feet. He's not had a lot of top class coaching (apart from our coach, Karl… ha ha) and is nothing like the finished article yet.
It's the first time one of our former players has gone on to turn pro, so it's a great fillip for those of us working away in the South West to spread the word of RL. If we weren't there he may never have had this chance to play the greatest game at the highest level.
Obviously we're making the most of this press wise and it's the first time I can think of that the Rhinos have been featured in the Bristol Evening Post! We'll all be watching his development closely and wish him the best of luck.
Next time i speak to Gary H (which, to be fair, could be a while - last time was when I bumped into him at an international a few years back) I'll congratulate him on taking a punt

| As the Donny fans have said, he obviously has very good natural attributes and with good full time coaching will get a lot lot better. We knew we wouldn't be able to keep him for long.
