| Wasn't there a place in Hyde Park called Chakwal's? Islamabad over the road from the Uni took bad food to new lows, but had some top arcade machines in!

I'm getting my pub names mixed up I think, but wasn't there a pub at one side of the Merrion centre (the side towards the "Casino"icon_wink.gif called the Tap 'n' Spile, and the other one on the other side (St Johns centre side) was the Jug and Bottle?
There was also a hard metal club downstairs wasn't there, near the Jug and Bottle (if that was its name!) ?
Incidentally, I never ventured in any of them! However I have been in Arcadia a fair few times, its about a 30 minute walk from my home, and I think they have managed to make it not look like a shop inside!!

Yes there was an Indian (or technically Pakistani I guess) called the Islamabad opposite the Uni. We had a name for it - the "Slimy Bad". I went in there on my 21st and got food poisoning (had nothing to do with alcohol honest ). My mate went in there one night and nearly caused a riot by claiming that the chicken bone in his tandoori was actually a cat bone. He did this very loudly and pointed out at the top of his voice that he was a zoology student and that he knew a f*****g cat bone when he saw one.
Priceless

Nafees was cheap and cheerful after beers at the fav - I assume we must have been in there quite a lot as they knew our normal order off by heart.
Once went in later on a Saturday night sober as we going on Hols in the early hours of Sunday, seeing the place with me being sober you realised what a bear pit it was and home much 'banter', good natured or other wise the staff got.

Naffes was great! Only in Leeds does a mushromm bhaji mean deep fried mushrooms rather than that slop they serve up down south, and Naf's had the best. The three free chappati's you got with your curry was a bonus as well.

Never the same when they closed the China Buffet! Their 'bag' of chips was in fact a sack!
Just up from the Islamabad was the sadly-missed Theo's Charcoal Grill, a purveyor of the finest 'real' kebabs you could hope to taste. Think it's an Ainsley's now.

we have never ever ever had a problem with Rajput. I know it's not the most glamorous looking of establishment, but never had a problem with the food.

Also up that road was that off license that used to sell beer in pint pots to get around the licensing laws. You had to stand on the street and drink it (sold for consumption off the premises), but it was as close to the continental "al fresco" lifestyle as we got in Leeds in the 1980's
It was the only place to get a pint between 3pm and 5.30pm.

Phono, but a goth club not a metal club, the metallists used to go to Scrumpies which is down between where Little Tokyo and Oxfam are now near Boar Lane. I used to frequent both. Often frequented the Pig and Whistle beforehand, where FAB is now.
