You can put Ablett or Smith to half back for me, I don't really care, as long as they can be spared. But Sinfield needs to be 13, the team is completely different when that happens, and he holds it all together.

Lee Smith's performance yesterday was one of the very worst I have seen from an experienced SL player.

We don't have any centres at all without Senior and with Delaney at second row. In terms of making breaks and scoring/letting in points, centre is probably the key position in RL. We probably have the weakest centre pariing in SL at the moment, and you'd have to look as far back as 1996 maybe to find a worse set of options for Leeds.

Ablett is a makeshift at best, and Smith seems to have gone backwards at a rate of knots. Until Watkins is fit we don't have anybody else with any experience at all in the position.

Given that, I'd look at which of the existing backs may have the capability to move there. I'd prefer to keep Hall on the wing unless he wants to try centre, as he hasn't really shown much in the way of the sort of attributes you'd expect to see (some kind of passing, good decision making in defence), except for his size. Of the others, both BJB and Hardaker look more natural 'footballers' as they say here in Oz, but both may be a bit lightweight.

Given the state of this season, I think a few experiments may as well be taken with the centres for the remainder of the year. As it is, I fully expect we'll see Smith/Ablett continue until Waktins is fit, and then probably Smith/Watkins. Depressing indeed.

WTF have Wasps done to Lee Smith. I was delighted when he came back, but that try at home to Wigan in the Cup apart, he's been fairly lousy.

If McGuire had a bit more about him physically I'd be tempted to try him at centre until someone better is found... His passing, step, acceleration and even short kicking game would be an asset there. Especially if McDermott persists in using Sinfield at stand-off.

Correct. 12 months have passed. Smith has had an off season to work on his conditioning and get him back into shape for RL. Any problems with him are down to himself, and the coaching staff.

The lad gives his all to the cause, and has very good hands for his natural position. Marker defence he was great. But general defence was poor, always holding back and not coming up in the line with his team mates. Why do you think Catalans kept attacking our left hand side?

That is because he aint no centre and that was my point, he is playing out of position but at least gives 100%. I mean what's with Smith these days?

It seems such a long time ago when he looked so highly promising when putting McGuire away from within his own half in the snow after our FB's risky youthful impetuous offload !!



The only other pass I remember from him was when he actually passed outside to Donald who then only just made it to the line after both he and his centre partner were chased down by one certain Mr Broughton. Now he is what I call a genuine natural winger - as opposed to our makeshift incumbents. Pity HE is not available....
