His sideburns certainly get on my pecks, but unlike Saints fans I am not a racist, i know who is who. So yes, JJB definately fell off the tackle twice in Saints 20 in the second half.
I could say maybe Opta have a racial problem and have credited Bailey with those 2, but the 2 misses credited there we could not argue with.

The 21 missed tackles are below Leeds' season average to date of 23.4
McClennan may see that as a positive sign.

| It's an improvement on the last two performances.
Although not shown above, Leeds' marker tackles hit a season high of 65 as St Helens recorded the second highest number of scoots from dummy half (51), a figure only topped by Noble's Crusaders (57) at Headingley a couple of games ago.

| Just to add to what G1 said about Kirke doing most his work in defence.
I think Phil Clarke picked up on one big thing Kirke did which was to pressure Leon Pryce early on in the second half and force a poor kick which led to us having field position and I think may have led to one of our tries.
As Peacock said against Wigan in the cup, if you can't make a difference by scoring tries, make a difference by doing something to lift the team in defence, he did it against Wigan with the tackle on Tomkins to force a poor kick, Kirke did it on Friday with his effort to pressure Pryce.

No wonder he didn't do much if he played on Friday night as well as Saturday night. He should stick to one game a week

I've never been a great fan of the charge down as they seem to result in another set of six to the kicking side more often than not.
Of course when that doesn't happen it's a great tactic and a good observation by Clarke re Kirke on this occassion.

| Of Course Kirke goes to pressure the kicker. It means he is out of the next set and doesn't have to take a drive in. Hence the six, yes six, drives on Saturday.
I can't believe he's being defended for such laziness by rejoicing that he stuck his arms in the air on the sixth tackle and got noticed by the d1ckead who said Saints were more skillful than Leeds.

Kirke charged down two kicks in the opening six minutes of the second half. They gained Leeds attacking field positions for the following sets. Unfortunately McShane butchered the first of these with a coach killing 'glory' scoot on the last and Eastwood the second with a poor offload.
Single digit 'hit up' figures isn't that unusual for some of Leeds' forwards.
Carl Ablett has done this 7 times in his 11 Appearances so far this season.

I wasnt rejoicing. I was infact adding to the fact you had mentioned his extra work in defence compared to attack on P1 of the thread

I agree. I think pressure on a kicker is good, but most chargedowns result in the tackle count being wiped clean

Please change the record re Kirke you're getting tiresome! It was a good play and had some one done the same on Pryce in the 4th min they would not have scored their 1st try.
Look forward to hearing another record from you next week!

Tip for you. When tvoc does this thread every week he also includes the previous weeks below.
Ablett
1 V Cas, went off injured
7 V Catalans
6 V Hull
9 V Warrington
9 V Bradford
9 V Crusaders
7 V Warrington

To answer your question directly: Ablett (leaving aside the Castleford game in Round 1 as he got an early injury) made 6 hit-ups V Hull at Home in Round 11. He started the game from the bench though (just as Kirke did on Saturday) where the games tend to open up a little after the initial arm wrestle, although I'm sure you will have taken that into account already before offering your critique.
As for 'ever' I'm not sure as I've only recorded the individual player weekly totals since the start of the 2009 season.
Ablett in 2009: (6 hit-ups and under)
Round 1 - Wakefield (H) - 6
Round 2 - Hull KR (A) - 3
Round 7 - Les Catalans (H) - 6
Round 9 - Salford (H) - 6
Round 13 - Castleford (A) - 6
Round 16 - Huddersfield (H) - 4
Round 26 - St Helens (H) - 6
I wouldn't have wanted to be Carl Ablett reading your comments last season based on those efforts....
Quote ="G1"Easy to acheive with a pathetic six hit ups. Six. In the entire game. Six.'"

| The beneficial effects of a charge down aren't always seen immediately. While it often leads to a repeat set, it often induces the kicker to stand deeper on subsequent sets.
