My Mrs and I were walking back to the car, some poor Wigan fan on his own was copping a load of verbal from inebriated Leeds fans and foolishly tried to debate a few things, then surrounded by Leeds fans my Mrs and I and copped a load of abuse whilst minding our own business. 40-50 year old blokes hanging out of cars shouting “F****** get back to Wigan” and a big gang of young lads, inebriated making a beeline for me shouting “Tomkins is w******”, I’m not related to him funnily enough?!, even Leeds fans were saying “ignore them” stuff like that. My Mrs is new to Rugby League and it’s a sad day when I go to a game and get a load of verbal for wearing an opposition shirt, football mentality I’m afraid and makes Leeds fans look like thugs.

I'm under no illusion that there are elements of fans in every club like this but this was way over the top, I was on my own with my Mrs and it has left a poor taste in our mouths about Leeds fans and the sport today.

I will be writing to the RFL and Mr Hetherington on Monday to put my point across, if I get a response I will relay it on here.

P.s. Leeds totally derserved it today.

Is this the thread where we all bring up our past experiences with the opposition's fans when we lose ?
Shall I write to the RFL and report the time my mate and I were attacked by Wigan fans and I couldn't work for two weeks due to the injuries I received ?
Or should I write and tell the RFL about the time I put myself in the firing line between some eejit Rhinos fans having a go at some Wigan fans and I put a stop to a potential problem ?
I wish we didn't have this problem in our sport , but we do , and I can't see it going away .

There are idiots in all sets of supporters, but I hadnt really come across this in league until today.

There does seem to be incidents of this nature after "big games" between most of the top clubs unfortunately.
I did also think it could be much worse with the 5.30KO and plenty of time for tools who cant handle their ale to get blitzed.
I will definately say we are not all like this and you just got unlucky to be near some gloits today and it's obvious you were easy targets unfortunately.
I hope it doesn't put yer mrs off RL because i think its a great sport and more often than not you can go to games without any grief before ,during or after ANY game and mingle with opposition fans.

i can relate to this post im a hull fc fan and my x wife is hull kr and we used to go and watch either fc or kr at home depending on who were playing i used to go to old craven park and stand behind the dug out wearing fc shirt and have good banter with kr fans and she would stand in3penny with me in a rovers shirt and no one would give us grief! ffs its a game we are passionate about and we still have a laugh about our teams theres no need to have a go at opposing fans! i remember going to wembley with school in the late 70,s when leeds beat widnes and saints and having a good crack with both sets of fans. i know fc fans have a rep for been dicks but they are in small minority anyway rant over and well done l$$ds and lets hope the giants win....................heres hoping!!

Pissèd up, aggressive chavvy Leeds fans are nothing new.

But they, and quite a few others, need to urgently get over their obsession with Sam Tomkins. It was just embarrassing seeing middle-aged men with kids desperately giving Tomkins the finger every time he was near the Leeds end and howling at him like drunken jackals.

I find it strange that fans never get attacked when they win. Crazy, to me that would make more sense(although still wrong).

In answer to the OP question - No, they are not.

To offer a reply to the letter that he won't yet have written to the RFL and Leeds Rugby Ltd, "We are sorry that you found your enjoyment to be spoiled by the behaviour of a small number of aggressive supporters, but the control of the crowd outside of the ground is, blah, blah, blah", the reply is probably already written in "Standard Reply #42".

I'm only surprised that this is the first time that you have ever come across aggressive drunken behaviour by moronic males who seem to take some sort of delight in aggressive drunken behaviour, as if that were some sort of "norm" in their social circle, and maybe it is.

Don't worry, move on, you are better than they are and the only downside is that they will die of kidney and liver destruction in their 40s and you will pick up the bill via the NHS.

To be fair to every decent law abiding supporter of the game, this is not a problem that pervades one club, town or area. It is a society wide problem and needs to be addressed at that level. We are just fortunate that our sport has, on the whole, not attracted too many of he undesirables.

It comes down to how you're brought up, simple as that. You either have respect for others because, you have been given that life lesson, or you don't. Regrettably, far too often, the latter is the case.

A group of four Leeds vermin were ejected from the seats behind us yesterday, shortly after showering the people I was with in beer.

IMO it's not acceptable to dismiss the Wigan fan's complaints as sour grapes. Even if I didn't see this incident I saw plenty of evidence yesterday of this kind of behaviour by Leeds fans. And it's not a worthy argument to say, "every other club is just as bad". Who cares? A not insubstantial number of aggressive and unpleasant scum follow Leeds and we shouldn't be afraid to accept that fact and see if it can be dealt with (the fact that it probably can't be is also not sufficient reason to ignore it).

It's easier to just pen them in at the back of the South Stand so they don't come into contact with opposition fans inside the ground. Once they are outside on the streets, it's not the club's problem any more. They're more than happy to take the bar profits they generate though.

It's been an issue over the last ten years that the club have paid less than lip service to in the pursuit of profit.

At the train station on the way home there was a load of Bog Brusher on one side of the platform and a load of loiners on the other. Both were goading each other - both were as bad as each other.

As with all other sports there is always a minority who spoil it for others and I am sorry that this happened to you and yours. On the other hand my party walked off debating the game with some great wigan Guys, so its not all bad.

I'm fed up of these type of fans, but what irritates me just as much is the obligatory thread on here that somehow makes us partly responsible, and having to defend ourselves for the behaviour of a moron. The responsibility lies with them, they'd be morons whether they had a Leeds shirt on or not. It's embarrassing to be seen wearing the same shirt as them but it's a problem with the individual, not the clubs fans as a whole. These threads achieve nothing I'm afraid.

If I do not receive a satisfactory reply from any of them or if the government does not impose Marshal Law from Noon this Friday in an attempt to catch such perpetrators, my spouse / offspring / hamster / cattle / other domestic animals / fence post / cheese grater collection (*Delete as applicable) will never attend a game of Rugby League in our lives (* Any future lives we have through reincarnation or regression hypnosis)

And given the number of police around, why did you not make an effort to report this 'behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace' to the nearest constable ?

Does baffle me when people come on here (Leeds fan included too) after their team has lost and start a thread questioning the behaviour of a set of fans when we all know it's a minority of idiots that probably no nothing about RL apart from 'my team is great, your team is rubbish' that cause the trouble, especially at the Finals that attract a lot of 1 game a season 'supporters'. Not condoning it, it's dead wrong but not sure what its aim is on these forums and also unfortunately some people can't handle alcohol and sport (some don't even need the alcohol part) and they'd still be an idiot regardless of what team they 'supported' or wherever they came from along the M62. Decent RL fans are still able to mingle with one another better than most other sport, especially football.

Of course we are not all like that,and you know we are not

I remember in the challenge cup at Headingley when we scored the one and only try, me and a lad who posts on here was walking down the ginnel at the back of the ground, when a lad with other wigan fans came out of nowhere and smacked him and ran away down the alleyway.

What about people on the bus yesterday shouting obscenities and spitting out of the coach windows and then showing there bare ar5se cheek to half of west yorkshire?


From experience, if you don't even reply to anyone, and completely ignore it. "trying to debate" with some mindless idiots is pointless. People blame society and the beer etc, but I'm sure it's not changed that much over the years.
