TBF I have had a sneaking suspicion since the cup quarter final that we were starting to look like a top 4 club again. I think if we can pass tomorrows test we will be as tough to beat as Wigan or Saints (not that Wire can play Saints) and as its the "semi finals" between 4 good teams IMO it will be anyones game. My honest thought after Saints beat Wigan last week was that we would play them in the GF again. If it doesnt happen then fair enough, but of the 6 teams left, any can beat any now.

I've thought about this alot and I just don't quite see it. I think a damn close exit in the semi is most likely, giving the season an upward inflection.

Fair analysis that really. I too share the thought that we've looked better recently than we have all season, especially with our win at the Galpharm a couple of weeks ago. Quietly confident for tomorrow, although I would have preferred Abbo to be fit. Still, Bailey is available so not all bad news.

I wonder. Maybe wire tried to pressurise Smith into picking someone else, hence his keenness to distance himself from the whole process. Otherwise he might just as well have said something along the lines of "Club call is crap, I'll be picking the lowest team, whoever that might be". Instead he won't participate which strikes me as odd.

Smith certainly likes the mind games. On paper the winner of Hudds/Leeds is an easier fixture - but then he may prefer to take on Wigan at Halliwell Jones, rather than Old Trafford - home advantage does have its benefits. That said, this weekends games could both realistically finish with away wins - would he want Catalan or Leeds? Whether club call is liked or not, it does get you thinking!

Still expecting a Wire v Wigan final.

I think our focus needs to be on a tough game tonight. If (and it's an if) we get through that then we are in a semi and anything can happen. I just can't see two of those "anythings" happening in a couple of weeks.

A win tonight is the minimum target, and then we need to at least give Wire a game. Realistically though, they've been so much better than us all year, and I think it'd be a massive upset. Even if we managed it we would then have to back it up against Saints or Wigan to win. I don't see it. Winning tonight and a good performance next week would give us something to build on for next year. I'd never settle for that, as such, but those are where I set my expectations.

For what it's worth, Wigan are being written off too quickly IMO, and they remain my tip for the title.

Oh, and Wire will pic us if it's out of us and Wigan, and Catalan should they win tomorrow. They'll always go for the lowest ranked side.

Hmmm...no doubt that wire are a substantial hurdle, should we progress tonight which is far from given. But were we to reach the final I reckon we'd have a realistic chance against any of saints, wigan or catalans.

I'm going to have to get a trademark. Or something.
