www.therhinos.co.uk/fanzone/poll.php
Somehow Ellery Hanley is way ahead of kevin Sinfield in this one.
I have a suspiscious feeling about this !
Kevin sinfield should have at least 90% of the votes on this one considering he is the most successful Leeds RL Captain in history.
Maybe other fans voting for Hanley ?

| Ah right I misunderstood the poll. Fair enough, I suppose it depends on whether you're picking the most talented team or the team that his given most to Leeds.

| Ellery Hanley is the best player for any club from the last 30 years and, as as a Rugby footballer, was many leagues ahead of Sinfield.
But as a Leeds player, captain, winner and servant to the club Sinfield is unequalled, so should be No.13 in a team of Leeds greats, as opposed to a team of the greatest players who've at some point played for Leeds.

If the criteria for the greatest Leeds team is based on the latter, there's really no point including any player who didn't play for Leeds from 2004 to 2009, is there?
Ellery Hanley gets my vote.

| Only Hanley and Sinfield have any votes.
Based on my understanding that the criteria is "the best number 13 who has played for Leeds" I have voted for Sinfield. That is based on his ability to come up with huge plays, like the tackle on Eastmond in the GF the other year, or the kicking game which completely nullified Vainikolo in 2004. Sinfield has done it for so long in Leeds colours, and is the most decorated Captain in the club's history, he get's my vote.
If Hanley had been at Leeds for a few more years, and we had enjoyed some success during that period, maybe it would have been a tougher decision.

You must have missed the "captain" bit out when you read the criteria. That only applies to one player from the 2004-2009 squad. Sinfield for 13.
But, yes, if Harry Jepson and the rest of the Leeds board hadn't been so reticent about signing "the wrong sort of lad" then his vote, and Leeds RL's history, could have been very different.

| Sinfield for me. Hanley was a better player but if we're using that criteria Buderus, Grothe and ET (and sailor) would be in the side. Career achievements and longevity have to be taken into account. Sinfield will quite rightly be talked about in the same breath as JOhn Holmes in future years

I wasn't aware that selecting the greatest 13 who ever played for Leeds was intrinsically linked to a captaincy role.

| Anyone know who has been selected from 1 to 12 so far?
Have all the selections been players who played for Leeds between 2004 and 2009?

There is a qualifying criteria of 100 1st grade games for Leeds which currently counts out your alternate suggestions. It's a sensible criteria when assessing a player's contribution to the club as it recognises a minimum of 3 seasons commitment to the club.
Both Hanley and Sinfield meet that criteria.
Harsh on Sinfield but Hanley was a different class (even towards the end of his career) in his four years at his hometown club. It's no shame IMO to place second in a poll to the greatest British player of his generation.

Ok, that's fair enough.
Having only seen a little bit of Hanley I am obviously not as bowled over by his obvious talent as people who watched him througout his career.
I'm still leaning towards Sinfield for among other reasons:
12-15 years service when he finishes
8 plus years as an inspirational leader on and off the field
A chance he'll become the clubs leading points scorer of all time
Consistent high levels of performance that earned international honours and on a short list for world player of the year
Inspirational finals perfomances which earned mom honours
Etc etc etc

| All perfectly valid and Sinfield is a worthy contender, on the other hand he didn't have to put up with Garry Schofield.

| Whilst Hanley did a lot of good things in a Leeds shirt he was still part of one of the biggest ever under-achieving squads here.
It's Sinfield for me ,an inspirational leader ,quality player and his exploits during our most succesfull era have been nothing short of outstanding.

Rubbish.
Different types of player, did different things for their clubs. For what Sinfield has done for "Leeds" he would get my vote ahead of Hanley.
