| Not for him to be tackling like Malcolm Alker, that's a certainty.
He'd be overtaken as third choice at Leeds by the end of next season anyway by Liam Hood IMO.

Agree with all of that, but think a season loan at Salford would be very good for him, for defensive practice.

| Some harsh comments about Mchsane and i'm sure a regular SL place will do him the world good of he already has a better kicking game than either of our 2 1st choice 9's.
Yes he has to improve his defence and all round game but he's young and has potential imo and this will do him the world of good.

The day you start picking a 9 on the basis of his kicking game you know you're in trouble.
He's had plenty of time to work on the deficiencies in his game and based on his limited opportunities this season he's not managed it.

I did'nt say that did i? Just pointed out that he has that in his armoury which given our overall kicking game as a team in general is a bonus.
He did ok at Hull on loan and since has'nt had the opportunities at 1st team level for us.
He's still young enough and has the potential to learn and improve imo and he'll get that chance at Salford.

| Paul McShane was the next Buderus until he had 2 bad games for Leeds.
Plenty of potential in the lad but needs to sort his tackling technique out, he's always in the right place but goes far too high and gets bounced off unlike Buderus who isn't the biggest bloke but has a fantastic technique and can bring anybody down.
Why has Buderus not taught him this since he's been here?

I don't recall anyone hyping him up to that level, except perhaps rhinoms. He looked a promising young player at the start of last season but appears to have gone backwards since then.

Where do you get that sh#* from?
I 've called it the same as many others a player with great potential who i think will make it and if you read the coaches remarks about him they big him up more than i ever could.
has he really gone backwards or suffered form wise from lack of games?
Time will tell and like others in the past i'll bide my time before writing them off.

Be fair, rhinoms didn't either. Infact far from it, rhinoms was one of the posters calling for McShane to wait for his turn, and have another year learning. But nobody as you said called McShane the next Buderus.
He does however place a lot of confidence in unproven players making the grade. Perhaps you got confused with that.

Yep i can admit to that i do back their potential alot more than perhaps is warranted at times but like i said before i like to wait longer than most to before either writing them off or be proved wrong.

I think so but like i pointed out he'll need a run of games before you can judge him.

Imagine the deficiencies in his game had he not lived and worked in the same county as Buderus!

RLW did. They listed him as the number 1 young prospect in the world a while back in their top 50 (I can't remember exactly but I think it was limited to players who had not played a 1st team game at the time). This included Australia. No joke. I couldn't help but laugh, even then.

| As G1 said, I thought that youngsters learned so much from watching 'great' players I'm surprised McShane isn't already an international, what with watching and occasionally subbing for both Diskin and Buderus. Maybe the whole idea of kids learning from watching is a crock, like I always thought?

That sounds dangerously like an opinion on an emerging prospect to me. I thought you took a dim view on such things?

The concept of passing on experience only works if the person receiving the knowledge has the ability to turn the advice in to practice. I am sure Buderus will have passed on some of his knowledge to McShane and Diskin, the problem is neither are anywhere near as good a player as Buderus and what comes naturally to him simply isn't possible to lesser players

| The concept is generally a crock. Its been used as an apologia for average Aussies (and sometimes average older English players) as well as 'geniuses' like Buderus. Its not just ability but also style of play. What could Greg Inglis teach Lee Smith about playing centre? Nothing useful I suspect, and not due to Smith's ability - he simply cannot play the way Inglis does at 18 stone and much faster.
