Very brave of him, and he's done the public (and the employees of William Hill by the sounds of it) a huge service. Am never quite sure what to think about a situation like this though - if it works out, you come out a hero, if it doesn't,you end up on your back in a pool of blood - and seeing as there'sa strong link between robberies such as this and drugs habits, you're not exactly dealing with someone who's likely to be thinking rationally. Honestly don't know what I'd do in such a situation - part of me would like to think I'd do the same, the other part of me would never want to put myself into a situation where I was staring a gun (in the hands of an irrational drug addict) in the face. Bailey's Dad is probably lucky it was a fake - had it been real, the kid may well have used it. Having said that, what he did showed one hell of a lot of bottle - fair play to him!

In contrast, the Least Feared Man in Super League's dad would probably have stood 30 yards away, wagging a finger and shouting the odds.

Although I did once help a young lad hold onto a shoplifter in the Merrion Centre, the shoplifter stopped struggling when I stood in front of him and afterwards I was rather upset that he had decided to wait for the police rather than take the chance that this fat bas'tad might sit on him.
