thinking today have we really taken in what a fantastic achivement it is to win three in a row?
yes we celebrated each one but when you sit back and look at it it's a staggering thing to do.
to peak at the right time each season, especially last season when most of the squad had 2 weeks pre-season, and to turn up and play to near perfection in 3 grand finals in a row is mindblowing.

i'm not sure even now we appreciate how fantastic this set of players have been

No we were just lucky in a one-off game at the end of the season.
Saints were and are the best team in superleague really.

I'm sure those of us that have supported them through the "nearly/never will be" years do realise the enormity of the achievement and those that haven't known anything other than success will savour it more when our reign comes to an end.
Having said that i think we'll win it again next year.

English people don’t celebrate success like most of the westernised world does. You could say that hooliganism has ruined it for the rest of us to have crazed celebrations after our team has won a championship.

I waited all my life to see a championship winning Leeds team, in 2004 they did and boy! did i celebrate



2007 was fantastic, after being looked down on for 2 years and written off by everyone, Leeds produced a night of magic to blow the "S" off the park.
2008 was just as good as the "S" claiming that 2007 was a fluke and they would show us rugby "saints style" subsequently went up in flames as we ground out a brutal grand final win.
2008 was even better as the mighty "S" claimed everything was against them the previous year, weather, ref, the RFL, players had a bet on etc end result, one of the most fiercely contested grand finals i have had the pleasure to watch, with Leeds grinding out a win after Saints massive effort.

I have enjoyed all 4 of our victorys, and can understand the enormity of what we have done but i cant help but feeling that 2004 was the sweetest one for me, that for me finally shook off the chokers tag, and announced to the super league that Leeds had arrived.

Fantastic achievement but also a shame that some dont understand that to peak at the right time you will have off days throughout the season.

The team/coach/board etc etc should be supported in those times and not roundly criticised.

Yeah well said fella. I think myself included and 90% of fans have done the same at some point. We really have a super club to be proud of. We'll have times again when we won't win anything, but as long as we have good foundations we'll be there n there abouts consistently and win a few things along the way.

I am glad to see the originator of this thread take this attitude. I hope he remembers this in April/may next year if the team lose one or two on the trot.

The OP was, sadly, one of the worst to dish out unwarranted stick to the players and coaches that have played a part in these last 3 wonderful years.

I said this to one or two people towards the end of the season. When I said I was convinced we would be in the GF, they said that "We'd not played well all season". My response was "because we don't need to".

It's as simple as that. This set of players know exactly what's required to get through a season and leave enough in the tank for one last effort at OT.

no i wasn't. i supported them all last season when others were slagging them.read the previews and i consistently said the world cup had a massive effect and we would hopefully come good at the end of the season

i did in 2006 when they were awful, i will be the first to admit it,although even then it was more the coach than the players

I for one recall one 'fan' shouting at the Salford game in April this year: 'Bloody McClennan he 'ant got a clue'....I didnt see him at the Quins game a few weeks later. Wonder if he was at Old Trafford?

Perhaps not players and coaches then, but you were highly critical of the squad strength....and therefore of the players actually in the squad.

The Last couple of years yes Saints were the Best Team as they topped the table and then we beat them in a one off final , but we all know the rules before we start the season and the CHAMPIONS are the team that wins the Grand Final and for the last three years that has been Leeds

squad strength is not the players

how can it be?
i felt we were a player or two short but the players rolled up there sleeves and were supurb.
i still say smith is not a centre,square peg in round hole is the term i used, but he made a good fist of the job.
an extra prop would have menat rotation and rest which is what we have for next year. i would expect more rotation next season with the likes of ambler here.
