Who is the best Leeds halfback that you have seen and can you give any reasons

yep by a country mile. Schoey 88-92 when he still had his pace was a pleasure to watch, there wasn't much he couldn't do.

Iestyn at his peak - he had the lot

Lewis jones , Holmes/schofield, shoebottom in that order. But they were all different with different skill sets; right now I'd have any at their peak but Jones could make dog poo outside him look good, so him. Although at today's prices we would have to spend400k to get him - can't see that happening

he was class. always wonder what impact he could have had on the international game had he not gone to Union in his peak and got ruined.

Schoey for me but also Harris was quality on his day especially behind Muzzas pack.

Cliff Lyons. Terrified me with ball in hand. Tough. Great ball player. Consistent. Performed at the highest level. Had he played the full season in 88/89 Leeds would've won more than the Yorkshire Cup.

He was primarily a centre before 1990? Who first picked him at stand off? Ward?

Best witnessed......Schoey without a doubt.

Mags. Best genuine half Leeds have had for a very, very long time.

My order would be...

1. Schoey - so many facets to his game.
2. Holmes - 2nd best deft and cut-out passer I've ever seen (Wally Lewis 1st).
3. Lyons - had it all but rest of team didn't know what he was going to do next.
4. Harris - seemed to always have plenty of time to weigh up his options.

Harris for me. Don't think I will see a better Leeds half.

I would say Harris too.

He had everything. Pace, guile, trickery, the job lot.

Was absolutely gutted when he went off to Yawnion.

Was Harris slightly past his best when he went to Union? I seem to remember his last year being a bit injury plagued.

Harris then Schofield then McGuire.

Only saw the last year of John Holmes so can't really judge and still class Kev as a 13.

Honourable mentions for short stints from Cliff Lyons and Craig Coleman, who was a genuine 7 whereas all the others mentioned were 6s.

you are indeed correct. Ward may have played him there a few times in 89 but i believe it was on the GB tour to NZ in 1990 he came to prominence in the role due to injuries to the likes of Edwards and Gregory. He still seemed to be a main playmaker for Leeds though even from his centre role in the late 80s its easy to forget he didn't have the 6 shirt on.

Yep plus Lance kept playing him at 7 whilst Sheridan was injured which just didn't work.
Eventually he lost interest fell out with Lance & buggered off to RU.

John Holmes by a mile , unfortunatley only saw an old Sir Lewis in a testimonial game

Iestyn had a body swerve that was almost impossible to read superb to watch when he was on his game. The Easter game at Odsal when it snowed comes to mind.

John Holmes. No pace but all the time in the world.

I would say Iestyn's best position was at 1 for Leeds.

Its a weird one because a lot of Leeds' best halves were arguably better in other positions, Schoey- centre, Kev- 13

I am a believer that you have to look at performances in big games, not just against the minnows, for that reason (counting Kev as 13) it has to be John Holmes, with Mags and Burrow as notable mentions
