| Bigger question will be do we retain him after next year? If he can replicate this year then he will probably get a deal, apart from Roby who is head and shoulders above the rest of the hookers in SL, Aiton has been right up there as the best of the rest and seems to have found his feet with us now. Will probably depend on the development of Robbie Ward over the next 18 months.

| Does it really matter - he is a pretty average SL player that could easily be replaced. Leeds didn't have much competition in getting doubt they would have much problem replacing him with a player of equal ability

Sal you bring balance to this forum by virtue of the fact that you seem to have a cloud for every silver lining.

I would say Aiton is currently the 2nd best hooker in SL and his performances have been part of the reason we've played so well this year.
I'm not sure that that qualifies him as pretty average or that he's "easily" replaced.

| Cracking player. He looks incredibly comfortable & composed around the ruck which is the mark of a class player, as opposed to the headless chicken variety.

Better than Roby better than McIllorum better than Clark and the list goes on?

On his seasons form I'd have him over any of the others you've mentioned other than Roby.
He's been outstanding and it's obvious our forwards are relishing the space he's creating for them by engaging the markers, a skill that he performs to a far higher level than McIllorum has ever reached.

Somebody on here needs to be objective/realistic - Aiton is no Buderus and he would be much easier to replace like for like. He looks good in a good side so would many others

I'd say this year he's performed better than Clark and McIlorum, and that's not criticising those 2 players either.
Does the list go on? Really? Because the next ones on that list are the likes of Houghton, Pelissier etc.
Again, I'd take issue with the assertion that he's currently an average SL player and that he's easily replaced.

He isn't no Buderus, not many are, Roby is no Buderus either. Is that really a bad thing?
He is a damn good player for us, and absolute miles better than McClorum, etc.
I actually agree with you that he is easily replaced, but not because he is bad, just that there are many hookers out there who can do a job for us, due to the players around him in the team. But I still think he is better than most of the players you will no doubt tell us are better than him, and if you can accommodate that, why settle for a lesser player to replace?

Absolutely - Aiton's a real catalyst in our forwards' go-forward. I dread it when he's subbed, let alone let go...

Better than the 2015 Darryl Clark? By an absolute street. Clark has been awful this year and absolutely outplayed by Brad Dwyer, who began the season at London FFS.
Aiton offers you more going forward than McIlorum, who is arguably a better defender.
Carry on with your list though. Better than Ian Henderson? Yes. Better than Luke Robinson? Yes. Better than Danny Houghton, Shaun Lunt, Adam Milner? By a mile.
So there are one, arguably two hookers in SL who are better players on their 2015 form than Paul Aiton. I think you may need to refine your definition of "average".

We only offered Hardaker his new deal in August last year when it was due to end October this year. We are not in August yet, and Aitons does not end until Octo re 2016.
I took from that interview that he will be staying, and a new deal given.
