| Of the 'golden trimumvarate' I have always recently being of the opinion Danny was the most dispensable. I am pleased to say this season to date he has proven me wrong. Whether it is because he is not playing second fiddle to Kevin I don't know, but he is really running the show well behind a dominant pack and I marvel at and appreciate the skills shown in some of his cut out exquisite passes. He is still showing that fabulous support instinct even if sometimes his pace isn't quite there to finish them to the same past degree.

he's OOC this year and I think they will offer him more than one year even though he's coming up to 33

Yep, I've been pleasantly surprised myself, and he's stepped up his game a couple of notches. Being of a cynical turn of mind I was going to enquire when his contract was up, but the previous poster answered that.

| It's a great pity he had those bad injuries a few years ago especially the one at Wigan it cost us a GF place and impeded his game when he came back

| For me. I'll always wonder what might have been with McGuire had he not had his injury problems. His pace from 10 years ago coupled with the skills his developed over the last 5 years would've seen him become a consistently outstanding test player IMO. He's still a superb player and in many ways has been underrated for a long time.

| Whilst the big injury he suffered certainly speeded up the deminishing of his pace, I think due to age he would've started to lose a bit of pace eventually anyway.
I think also the last couple of seasons he had a few other injuries he's had to cope with (didn't he break an ankle at Hull in 2013?). I remember the 2013 playoff win against Saints where we won 11-10, he really struggled physically and looked injured but he still managed to pop up with the winning one-pointer. Last year I can't imagine that his ribs had healed from Wembley in time for the playoffs.
One thing I like about McGuire is that he will always be involved and will always keep trying. Some halfbacks you can watch for 80 mins and forget they were on the pitch, not the case with McGuire imo. Doesn't always go for him, I recall a home match last year (against Widnes I think) where we won comfortably and things were coming off for other players but not for McGuire, but he kept trying and trying and trying to make something happen.
One thing mentioned about yesterday's game was that the halves messed up some chances but I can live with that providing they keep trying....because the reality is not everything is going to work out for you as a halfback and you'll make wrong calls or options in games.

They were, he has been the best half i have seen so far in the comp this year bar maybe Kelly at KR.It seems he is revelling being the main man and proving he can step up to do that.I too have been a bit critical of Danny in recent times but i am willing to eat my words and say give him another deal, he will be important for us next few years.

Kelly? I'm not sure about him. He's come up with a few good trys, but his all round contribution hasn't been that great. Campese has been the real star for Rovers so far IMO.

I was so peed off with Sinfield about that one. He should've drilled the ball out of play, but I think tried to get a repeat set with only a couple of minutes left and Wigan spread the ball out to the opposite side and left McGuire taking one for the team.

Carmont'sfault really for being so bloody slow. Might opening up a can of worms here but I watched that back at slow speed and what happens is, Mcguire being faster catches up with the slower Carmont and steps on the back of his boot which then messes up his next step which knackers up his knee. As he falls he reaches out and pulls Carmont down......a thought out deliberate move? Or just an instinctive move when you've got that pain going through you knee? Let's face it, Carmont wasn't going to beat McGuire to the line with 60m to go (hell he probably wouldn't have made it to the 40m mark) so he didn't need to do it.

What i have seen of Kelly he has looked very good but more of an individual threat than likely destroy a team with a pass.i agree Campese has also been good, controlled things well.
Whatever. The point is i dont think there is a half in SL i would swap for Mcguire right now.

| Always been a massive fan of Danny. I remember the 2010 season well, he dragged us through that almost single handedly, probably the most influential player in Superleague in my opinion. He bust his knee, and with JP being injured, we were never going to stop Wigan. I think he was beginning to be the all round player in '10, the injury, and subsequent ones, have diluted his impact somewhat, but he has blossomed as a ball handler and decision maker and will have another couple of years left with the right people around him. Sinny finishing is possibly the best thing for Danny's career in the long run.

Why give the opposition a chance though, when you can take half the remaining time off the clock and get a straight line of defense?

| One of my all time greatest Leeds players. So underrated by people who just don't get the quality of what he does. Had a superb game yesterday, all the skills on display. His pass to Moon was sublime.

I've always thought Danny is often underrated (especially by our own fans). Hes often the scapegoat when we play poorly.
Partly this seems to be due to the shift of style as he's matured from a quick support player to a ball player.
Of the golden three I've always considered burrow the most dispensable, whilst capable of magnificent moments of gamebreaking brilliance he's never seems to have fully settled into an 80min role. In fact his greatest match came off the bench.

Or the Hull game this year where he could barely catch the ball in the first half

| Danny has always been a class player - his try assists testify to that, something that is easily overlooked. His reading of a game is second to none, you don't end up in the correct supporting position by luck it requires skill and understanding.
The common thought on here that Leeds cannot play without Sinfield, this means the blame is seldom pointed at the captain. Danny seems to cop for most when things aren't going well which seems unfair.
One of the things that has made this team great is the ability to focus on the job in hand and deliver - nobody typifies that edict more than Danny. His will to win is every bit as strong as the likes of Peacock and JJB - an all time Leeds great.

| He's playing well and has adapted his game over the last few years to another level which is good to see lets be honest we ALL knew he was more than just a support player from day 1.
I will say though he does try to do "too much" at times in that his show and go when the line is set just doesn't work and looks pointless when other options are there.

The show and go has been something he's done throughout his career with a lot of success, Unfortunatley he forgets that he doesn't have the same pace he had then.

I want that in a half-back. The last thing you want is someone like Matty Smith who you know is never, ever going to take on the line.
Even if it's not on, do it. Throw the dummy, drop your shoulder and make those inside defenders respect the fact that you're not just going to ship the ball on. Longer term, it attracts the attention of outside defenders and forces them to switch off from looking at the runners they're supposed to be picking up and look inwards at what you're doing with the ball.

Andy i get that and i agree but not every time you can see the line is clearly set and certainly not from a slow ptb and imo he's done it too often thus far this year when better options are there that's my point.
