| So what did we think of that?
A great result, and a very good team performance from Leeds IMO. We played the conditions very well, and the game in general defied the conditions and was very entertaining I thought.
It wasn't perfect, our right hand side defense looked vulnerable at times, but overall they dealt with the threat very well and exploited Cas' weakness on their right edge (how Gibson is still an SL play I don't know).
McGuire and Moon were superb, and the front row were outstanding again. Handley isn't quite ready physically but he will take massive confidence from that game.
The biggest negative for me were our last tackle plays, apart from the Ward try they were poor, and it's been a poor part of our game all season.
Moving on to the Wakey game. I'd like to think Mulhearn comes in for Peacock, and I can see Sinfield coming back in to give McGuire or Sutcliffe a rest. It's also a shame Walters is injured because you'd have thought he'd get some game time too.

Was thinking of possibly giving Golding a game on the wing in place of Handley. Handley has played well and stood up great today but you could see towards the end when Shenton scored his 2nd that the lad looked absolutely knackered after they aimed so much at him.

Something along those lines anyway

| We need to beware that we don't take Wakefield lightly. We've done it in the past & they've made us pay.
It's still 2 points won or lost no matter who you play.
Sinfield will come back I'd have thought & start with Burrow in place of Aiton. Handley may need a rest so put Golding on the wing.
Otherwise don't tinker too much - dependant on any knocks from today.

Both sides have nothing in attack at the moment. I know they have injuries, but they looked like they could play all day and not score.
That Wigan accent...

| Thought our handling was excellent today. Very few handling errors from Rhinos today - our completion rate must have been at least 90%.
Could have scored a few more points but another potential banana skin avoided.

| How many times did the sky team say it was a classic? Every couple of minutes it seemed. It was a tight physical game but totally lacking in skill and error strewn.certainly no classic imo.

| Positives: Very good ball control in the conditions, surprisingly decent kicking game even in the absence of Sinfield. Cuthbertson (again) a danger to create something every time he got his hands on the ball. Terrific pass selection from McGuire for the Moon and second Hall tries.
Negatives: The injury to Ablett which hopefully isn't too significant. The use of Yates, really should have got more minutes than he did and seems to be behind Achurch in the middle unit rotation. The inability to finish clear opportunities - Sutcliffe's dropped ball, twice held up over the line - could have been costly.
I'd like to see Sutcliffe being a bit more vocal and getting himself into the game a bit more rather than at times seeming to sit back and let McGuire run the game. Eventually this is going to be his team, and he needs to start establishing himself in a leadership role.
Looked like Handley picked up a knock near the end trying to get a ball out of play, and was hopping about a bit after that. Twice now he's looked blown out late in games though (Wigan at home he was the same) and in tighter games that's potentially going to cost us points.
For Monday: Golding in for Hardaker, Sinfield for McGuire, Burrow to start with Aiton on the bench, Mulhern/Walters into the 17 for Peacock/Ablett.

Totally agree, it was cringeworthy, they were saying it's the game of the season after 10 mins. Very good tight game but no classic. Our game was better.

I thought Powell looked pi55ed during the game, and he sounded it in the post match interview. It was like listening to punch drunk boxer.

That's why I'd go with Golding on the wing vs Wakey. Handley has done really well. But we need him to cover for Briscoe for 3 months and you know that every opponent in that period will target him meaning he'll have a higher workload than most wingers on a weekly basis.
So let him have Monday off and rest up for Salford on the Sunday.
Would rest Stevie Ward on Monday too if Ablett's hand is ok. The latter only played 20 mins so shouldn't be too knackered and Ward has done a ton of work this year (pre-season also) so let's not burn him out.

| Regarding commentary.....how good was it NOT to have Stuart Cummings in the Leeds/Cas game chipping in on every decision. Proof that they should get rid of him.

Yep. A bit of skill from either side would have seen them walk it. Wigan compacted their defence and Saints were lacking their 3 main passers to get around them. Poor handling, all biff and bash.
Was pretty annoying having to listen to "this is just the hors d'oeuvre, the main course is coming up later" from the tossbags at Sky. Our game was much more skilful, Leeds completion rate was staggering, and it's not like we didn't try offloads etc. The game of the season quote after 10 minutes was also total nonsense. A p!$$ poor kick play from their first set from Saints and a spawny ricochet do not a classic make. And 80 minutes of mud facials should only be found in a spa resort, Wigan should charge extra for those.
