| His early season form has gone and although he wasn't crap today he seems lacking in confidence. When he scored not all the players ran up and back slapped him. Does he not fit in with the group? We have seen the player he can be when with Hull and earlier this season. What's going on with him?

Given his form hasn't been great over the last few months then I'm pretty sure his confidence will be lacking a bit (as it would with nearly every player) but hopefully that try will be a catalyst.....he went on to take a good high ball in defence afterwards near the end.
As for the celebration thing, all the backs and younger guys like Sutcliffe were straight up to congratulate. The ones who didn't go were the older forwards, but understandable. 70 mins gone and the original play was 60m back, are the likes of Peacock and Delaney going to go jog 60m just to give him a hug or conserve their energy and concentrate on going back to their positions for the kick off. Seen it plenty before when a breakaway try is scored late on, some of the forwards just stay back downfield.
As for the knock on he did which I think is what has put this spotlight on him on here today (plus the game vs Bradford), whilst he should've still caught it I do think he wasn't expecting Watkins to pass so early (which I reckon he shouldn't have done). Should be noted too that his try took some scoring and it wasn't a simple stroll. He did very well/smart to switch the ball to his other hand whilst running thus freeing up his other hand for the fend off of Evans. Similar to how he fended off a Wire defender to score at Headingley earlier this year when he started strongly.

| Thought he was brilliant today, except his knock on. He gets around the field and looks for work, which is what you want. He saved a certain try in the dying second of the first half, he scored a try which would have been hard for a lot to score with hand offs involved. He's very strong. Doesn't get enough plaudits but either way every player was brilliant today.

| Fair play iPhone got his surname wrong. I just watched it back and there were more that congratulated him after scoring.
Still need to find him and his early season form for the final and playoff run in

| I've watched the game back again. I can't understand people's problem with Briscoe in the semi. He played really well. The knock on was poor, but no worse than Halls attempt to catch that bomb. Hall also had a great game.

| Heard a rumour (just a rumour mind, with absolutely no corroboration at all) that some of the senior players are a bit p!ssed at the amount the Briscoe is getting paid in relation to his contributions.
Basically he’s on top dollar and some of the old guard don’t think he’s worth it.

| Surely he'll be paid a similar amount to what the other full international players are paid in line with wage structure at the club?
Anyway, there's nothing wrong with Briscoe overall. He hasn't been all that great this season (or last year at Hull to be fair) but he's still one of the best 2 wingers at the club by a mile, and one of the best 3 or 4 in the comp by a mile, we're very lucky to have 2 of them at the club.

| How on earth you could say Tom was poor yesterday is odd. The ball was hardly played to that wing all game.
On another note I remember a few years ago a new winger with red hair had a shocking first season and people called for his head. Went by the name Scott Donald and we all know what he ended up doing. Give the lad a chance before you start showing him the door.

His defensive positioning is sometimes worrying and he does seem to have been lacking in confidence under the bomb.....but for me still a great signing for the reasons you indicate here.
Having Hall and Briscoe on kick returns (with Hardaker too of course) is a huge assest.
My critcism would be more on the coach for again recently switching him to the left to accommodate a guy who is leaving (but has also himself played on the left wing) after he was just looking to be regaining a little of that diminished confidence.
If Hall is to be considered the bolted on Left Wing then focus on keeping Briscoe as first choice [iRight[/i Wing in an effort to improve his understanding/combination with Watkins.

Think we are looking for things that are not there. There are plenty of occasions were not all the team are celebrating the scoring of a try. Late in the game long range effort most of the young backs were there the forwards stayed back. Nothing to see here

| He's getting used to a new club, a new centre and a new side of the field. All of which are going to take time to build up a rapport and understanding.
He'll come good, and BJB moving on will mean he's not getting left out just to give someone else game time next season.

| Thought he was very good yesterday, and in his defence for the knock on, i've no idea what Watkins was doing playing catch and pass with about 10-15 yards of space to run into. I'd imagine Briscoe wasn't really expecting it so soon.

| After the knock-on incident, McGuire was telling Watkins off in no uncertain terms. Quite rightly too, IMHO. He passed far too early for Briscoe. Admittedly, he should have caught it, but he wasn't the only culprit in a badly botched moment.

| I do hope he does come good. I was worried that he may have gotten complacent as BJB is on his way and regarded himself an auto pick in the side. Hopefully not the case and he will keep on improving.

Spot on these two posts. I've said before Watkins gets a free pass on here when he doesn't have a big game and the blame is always laid on the door of others not giving him opportunities. Well he had a great opportunity yesterday and didn't take it.

| I've watched the game back again, and Briscoe was indeed better than I gave him credit for, his overall contribution was very good. At the time it certain things stick in the mind like the couple of errors he made, and sometimes you forget the small but essential contributions a player makes over the course of the game.

You may have a point about the grace Watkins is given which is probably due to his freakish talents. However the incident yesterday do not illustrate your point. Watkins may have given the ball a little early but he still gave his winger the ball, early and in space with room to run. The ball was in Briscoe's hands. To somehow lay the blame for the knock on at Watkins feet is plain silly.
Anyway, back to the point of the thread, Andy Gilder has nailed it. That said, he had a poor year last year at Hull and it was written off due to his contract situation, if we're putting this year down to his new club situation lets hope Briscoe focuses on his rugby next year.
