| So the consensus seems to be that Brian needs to go. If thats to be the course of action, who do we think we could/would go for? I only ask as im struggling to see a sensible/viable alternative.....

| Tony Smith?
Rebuilding a new Leeds side to win would make him immortal.
I'm torn on Powell, clearly doing a good job now and did a lot of good at Leeds. Well never know what may have happened but it would be a tougher job now than when he left

Last time Powell was here he had to make the call on a squad cull and most were his mates but he didn't hesitate or even flinch when pulling the trigger.
He also had the nadgers to back his youth potential at the club.
Get Powell in give him a free reign and there'd be a systematic cull and these young starts of the future wouldn't be at other clubs they'd be here he's also quite shrewd with signings imo remember Poching ,Furner ,Adamson ,Connolly ,Bai.
He also got a few wrong with Mullins ,Clyde and Walker but they were all well rated at the time of arrival.

My thoughts exactly. Its easily forgotten the role that powell played in assembling that first championship team....

I'm not disagreeing but are you putting the releases back then down to Powell rather than hetherington?
After a good think I'd welcome powells appointment. I'm just not sure the fekwitts would give him enough time

Read the interviews with the players concerned and DP himself all point to the Coach having the final say on who went and who stayed.
As long as there were changes made and the structures on the pitch showed signs of improving i'm sure the majority of fans would get behind DP and any sort of revolution.

| Powell took us from being absolute pap in 2001 and made us into title challengers in 2003. We should have also won the CC that year, a performance that we have only ever matched since. I will always maintain that he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

| I voted for Powell.
Maybe we need a new CEO though: one who doesn't publicly selectively lay the blame with just the players. This despite questionable tactics and selections which has included selecting players on three occassions to keep the bench warm while old forwards are dying on their feet.

| He did OK in laying the foundations for our success but I think it was more to do with the fact that him getting the job coincided with the 'golden generation' coming through. Yes, we became contenders while he was coach but he also underachieved with the squad he had in 2003. He's a good bloke but he's not good enough for a club looking to win trophies IMO. If we're going to try and bring an ex player in to coach the side from the Murray era I'd go for Harris, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

| While I'm also a fan of Harris and wish he was on staff, and while Powell, and a dozen others, could easily be seen as an improvement on McDermott, what we need at the moment is someone with a) enough age, distance and gravitas to run the team his own way and b) enough experience and knowhow to formulate winning plans with that ability.
Anderson fits that bill better than the other known candidates.

He brought through a lot of the "golden generation"
Underachieve in 2003, nah
We pushed an all conquering Bradford side close despite the turbulence of losing walker and bailey. The wigan game was a disappointment but the season in gerneral was excellent

According to Stevo tonight a large majority booed him last week. Now I heard some boos but a large majority is a bit of a reach!
Still, if there was a viable alternative I'd get rid

It seems to be the consensus on this site, evidenced by both postings and polls. I have no sure idea whether it's the consensus amongst the entire Leeds fan base, but would wager it is.

He brought them through but I reckon any coach would've done the same at that time. The 2004 squad was only 1 player different to that of 2003, and look what TS achieved with that team. We wouldn't have won the GF in 2004 with Powell in charge.

I love the way people say that with such confidence.
Let's face it, you have no idea whether we would or not and neither does anyone else. We might have won it in 2005 as well under Powell.
Not only was that one player a huge addition, but the young players were all a year older and more experienced
