| Any suggestions?
Thought Klein kept em in it to be honest.
Minimum punishment for two spears and an elbow.
Glad the best team won in the end tho'

| Could've easily binned Webb for a string of penalties aswell to be fair. However the raised elbow should have definitely seen a yellow.

Can anyone remember the last time Webb tackled anyone below neck-height? And you can't inlcude tackles with his lower torso.

| Not really, no!
I was behind a pillar for one of his high tackles in the 2nd half, didn't see one bit of what happened, but as the Manly player was stepping I already knew what was going to happen. His one on one tackling is not good.

One of our old Kiwis probably made him a video montage of Paul Woods

| Klein did extremely well to keep the contest 13 V 13 throughout.
He also showed plenty of leniency to keep the game flowing rather than stopping it needlessly for soft offences like knock ons and forward passes - liberal Union-like interpretations appearing to be the order of the day. Possibly highlights how soft the two referee system has made the refs from down under.

He is trying to quash the petty rumours that 'he's not committed in the tackle'
Have that.

| Couldn't argue with many of Klein's decisions. The "elbow" was borderline, a penalty and a bit of rough treatment from Peacock and Ablett were sufficient for me.
Leeds did give away a lot of penalties under pressure second half , but hard to bin anyone as they were for pretty varied offences, offside against Mags, a couple of ball steals, some borderline high shots etc. If we'd been pinged for messing around at the PTB 3 or 4 times in quick succession then the yellow card might have made an appearance.
The "spear" tackles were not dangerous in themsleves and I don't think there was any intent, but they should have been penalised and they were.
Good game, well reffed.

I agree.
I thought Klein did a better job than Silverwood did last time we were in the WCC.
Plus do you think that Ganson would have kept his yellow card in his pocket when we conceded as many consecutive penalties ( all correct decisions IMV) as we did in the 2nd half?
It was pleasing to see how correctly Manly played the ball, I wish all SL teams did the same & we are as guilty as everyone else in that regard.

Ganson's a c*@k. He still hasn't realised that the people who go to RL games haven't actually paid to see him.

| Yes good game well reffed. No ticky tacky soft penalties for technical stuff. Let em bash each other and let em play. Resulted in the kind of match I and any purist rugby league fan should enjoy.

I agree - at one point when Manly were camped on our line in the 2nd half there was one offload where the Manly forward appeared to hand the ball to a player stood in front of him. I've not seen a replay (nor could I name when it occurred so probably never will) but it seemed laughably blatant but was perfectly in character with the way the game was reffed.
I guess it's one of those where it's better to have a consistent ref than a "good" ref!

| Klein is human, humans make mistakes, I beleive that he made less errors than either of the two side contesting an excellent, consistently watchable properly contested game of rugby league.
I wish all our refs were as competent & that all SL games were such gripping games.

| No Problem with the refereeing, think the elbow should result in a ban though, looked deliberate and obvious. Not sure of the value of letting that go.

| The value of letting it go is keeping League a contest between equal numbers on the field unless something outrageous occurs. Either side loosing a player to the bin or permanently would of altered the flow of a great contest and potentially decided the outcome.
Last night was my type of league rather than the ever increasingly sanitised version we have to put up with normally. Bring on the world league.

I have no problem with him being left on the field, id agree it is better for the contest and the spectacle. I just think he should be punished to a level that it becomes a clear disincentive. It was as clear, as deliberate, and as obvious as any leading with the elbow could be, it was more luck than judgement that it didnt injure someone.
Why not give him a one match ban after the fact, he then knows he cannot do it again, but we keep the game at 13 a side and see the great spectacle we saw?

| I have no problem with that if it's warranted.
__________
I suspect last night was the closest we'll get to seeing SOO style referreeing (liberal interpretations) in this country and what resulted was a contest with players playing close to their physical limits.
Players should be allowed some latitude to express their prowess as long as it stays within a controlled environment.

I dont disagree. I think it is a problem we see in the game is that we seem to veer from a sanitised game to a game like we saw last night almost at a whim.
I have no problem with leading with the elbow being punished by a penalty and only a penalty if a prop forward dishing out a bit of 'justice' is treated in the same way.
I think the game is stuck in between wanting to have an attitude similar to ice hockey with the players keeping each other honest, and an attitude like football where the referee has to punish everything. I would hope they go for the former, but on the precedent of recent history they are going for the latter and thats why he should be punished.

| Think Klein started a little shakeily yesterday, but did extremely well overall. Many referees would have lost complete control of that game. But he did very well.
The two Manly tackles while were dangerous, won't intentional IMO. They went above the horizontal rather than a spear tackle, (no where near as bad as the union lot do). The elbow could have been a yellow, but then Ablett would probably have followed for a cheap shot to the ribs afterwards. Thought he did very well.

A total disgrace from Bentham, even though it was on Briers. Putting players on report is a kop out. Bentham should receive a suspension equal to the one Tommy Lee should get. Then again the way the disciplinary panel works Tommy Lee will get NFA.
