| Is anyone giving Leeds a chance against the pie eaters ?
I personally think we havea better chance against Wigan than we would against Wolves or St Helens.
Going to put £10 bet on JP first try scorer long shot might just pay for the trip..

| I rarely visit the bookies , but , I once had a fiver on Kallum to get the first try for us . I was like a 5 yr old on RedBull when he stormed away down the SS wing and scored .
Think it was early last year . He scored at the south west corner . Can anyone tell me who we were playing and when ?

| I don't really bet but a couple of weeks ago the missus and I were wandering round Salford looking for an ATM (not as easy as it sounds) - spotted a betting shop and thought "they're bound to have an ATM" - they didn't but while we were in there the missus wanted to put a bet on Bailey scoring at some point in the game.
They wouldn't take her bet, only giving odds for either the first or last try scorer - the b'stards.

JP nearly had a ball taken out to play for GB. That's just about the only thing I would rate as more determined to be a winner than Keith's determination that day.
Given he was one missed tackle away from his second CC winners medal, I would say he didn't do too bad.

| I occasionally have a flutter. Most memorable time was I once had a bet on Rob Burrow to score first.
He was having a stormer. Playing really well, and looking dangerous. We had the ball, you could feel the score coming, Burrow gets the ball and throws the most outrageous dummy, so much so that practically everybody in the ground thought he'd passed it, including me and my mate. Our hearts sank for a split second, only to quickly realise he still had the ball and was tearing away to the line. It was a great buzz at the time. The low of thinking he'd sent the winger in, then the high of realising he was through the gap. Like a rollercoaster. Won £70ish (which was shed loads as I was a student at the time). Went straight to the club shop, and bought a shirt with Burrow on the back with my winnings.
The shirt was the one with the "Barrie Mac 10" logo in the bottom right and we were stood on the old East side, so what's that 2005?

| I only gamble when I go to the races.
My only notable success came on a fine sunny day at York, when I carefully chose my horse, then beer made me give the wrong horse number to the bookie. I was going for a short-odds second favourite, and I accidentally stuck a tenner on some crock dobbin at 33/1. I was gutted. Then it won. Then I wasn't gutted anymore. I'd taken £100 out in th morning, paid coach and tats admission to get there and had beer and food all day. Woke up the next morning still with my trousers and one shoe on and £100 still in my pocket.
Rubbish at picking horses me.

Took the Mrs to the races. Went into full patronising mode. Explaining the ins and outs of the "going" and furlong length etc. How you can tell which horse is up for it by watching at the parade ring. Looking at Jockey form. Coach. The lot. I should point out at this stage that I've only been to the races about 6 times myself, and have no interest whatsoever in horse racing. But you know, I thought I'd give the pretty little thing a bit of a hand from a blokes point of view.
Gave her £50 to have a bet with once I'd shown her the ropes. Proper Gent me.
She decided to ignore my superb advice and just pick the horses on the colour, and the name.
I came home £200 down, she came home with close to £500. And she didn't even give me my £50 back. Ouch.

I tend to favour the approach your Mrs used. Doesn't usually work though. I always back a horse if the jockey is wearing blue and amber.
I once spent a full day at Catterick and didn't even get a place.
Luckily I enjoy a day at the races anyway and generally regard my gambling kitty as spending money.

That's the attitude I have too.
My brother-in-law once put £1 each way on a 200/1 outsider in the very first race and the bloody thing won!
Stuck £150 of it in his back pocket, played with the bookies money for the rest of the day. Laughing. Unless you're a professional gambler, you've got to just write off however much you can afford to bet with and count it as a cost of the day. Losing hurts less that way!

| I won £80 on Aspinwall being first try scorer when Stains played the Giants at Twickers, and £50 on Monaghan being MoM when Warrington turned the Giants over.
I don't like to bet when Leeds are playing. Last time I did, I had money on Sheridan being MoM (he always played out of his skin in CC games for some reason) and he had a fine game, only for bloody Rivett to score 4 tries.

| Been to one race meeting in my life. It was up at Thirsk or somewhere equally bleak as they had put a big screen up to broadcast a State Of Origin game live in the days well before Sky started broadcasting them.
It was in the days when Mark McGaw and Andrew Ettingshausen were turning out for the Blues. Watched the SOO, even stayed on and watched the 1st race on the card but that was enough for me.
Been there done that. Thanks but no thanks.

| 2009 Grand Final I spent a tenner on bets.
I had £1 each on:
[list=1
[*Eastmond to score first[/*:m
[*Draw at HT/Leeds at FT[/*:m
[*Matt Diskin to score at any time[/*:m
[*Will there be a drop Goal? Yes[/*:m
[*Sinfield MoM[/*:m[/listicon_surprised.gif
and a straight fiver on a Leeds win.
Can't remember how much I won. Less than you'd think. Wasn't much more than £100, but still. That's what you call a good day at the office.

| Went to Ripon & into Knaresborough last Sat with SWMC. Went with £140 and came home with £90. That was an enjoyable day.
Haydock earlier in the year saw me lose £100.

The missus and I went to Ripon last weekend on a whim - £6 in to the centre bit (don't know what it's called), a couple of quid each on the first 4 races and won fekk all. This included me betting on two horses and the missus betting on two different horses in a 5 horse race and we still fekkin' lost!!!
Went home after that - not really a betting man me.

| My biggest win was £340 off a tenner when Cockney Rebel won the 2000 Guineas a few years back. I was in Cardiff at Millenium Magic at the time. That was a good weekend.

Ahh yes. I picked the first four out, but told my Gran to go on Blue Shoes and I didn't back it.
Pepper lane was the biggest win with £3 on it, should read the Other Sports Betting Thread, it was tipped on there.

Party of eight of us on a lads day at the races a few years ago, eight races, five quid each in the kitty given to the one lad who said he knew all about racing form and stuff...
Our horse won in the first race so we added about £40 to the kitty, we didn't win anything else for the rest of the day so for the last race we had our £5 kitty money plus the £40 win, easy decision, split the £40 eight ways and put the original £5 on the last race - free day out.
No said our racing tipster idiot, theres only three horses in this last race and one of them is a dead cert, he will walk it (literally although we didn't know it at the time), I'll put all the £45 on it and we'll get a little bit back, not a lot, but it all counts for the beer kitty later on that night.
We argued but he did it anyway.
The last race was a short 7 furlong affair, it was over and done with in seconds and to me it looked as though only two horses had finished, "Go get our winnings and lets get to the pub" we told our racing tipster idiot, he just pointed to the finish line where, a full five minutes after the other two horses had finished our "dead cert" was now walking across the line with the jockey walking beside it, in fact the f'kin jockey crossed the line before the horse did and I swear he was laughing, the horse that is, not the jockey.
You also won't be surprised to note that when we turned to the betting ring all of the bookies had packed up and done a runner, its almost like they knew what was going to happen...
