| I've just been listening to the Wigan/Cas game on Radio Manchester online and after the game the presenter has told the listeners that Stuart Cummings has alleged to have said that DMs try last week against Wigan should have been given?????????????

| I'm not sure anyone knows the rules. There are 2 differing opinions in LE this week, one that says there is nothing in the rule book to suggest that a drop kick has to be aimed at the sticks, and the other from Tony Hannan stating that as McGuire wasn't going for goal, it's 100% not a try.

| Cummings is making a lot of post game corrections. He's apparently admitted to Royce Simmons that both the Ian Smith no-tries at Bradford decisions were wrong and so were both the decisions that went against Saints at Warrington.

Was he not "reviewing video footage of the game" when he made his decision?
Did he have different video footage after the event?
Or is the real issue that either:
1: He hates Leeds so much he cheated or
2: He doesn't know the rules

I thought we were talking about the recent McGuire try?

| yet there was two very dodgy Ref calls last night
The Wigan try in the second half which went to the Video ref there was a clear obstruction yet was given and Cas try should have been benefit of the doubt

Dodgy calls? In favour of Wigan at the DW?
There's a first.

Although the defender was obstructed, it is doubtful whether he would have reached the attacking player and so I guess that's why the try was given. Didn't really see it at the match but reviewing on Sky+ shows it. As for the Cas try ruled out you may well be right.
We all get angry at individual decisions, but in the end it mostly evens out.

Really?
The obstruction clearly stopped the Cas player doing his job and helped yopu lot create the movement to score

| Any player ahead of the ball and/or ball-carrier interfering with the defensive line should be an automatic penalty ...... shouldn't it? His job is to run an angle that holds the defensive drift (avoiding contact) not barrell into players and sit them on their a[irse[/is, creating a gap or preventing a defender tackling his designated man.
Occasionally a defender will make a bad read/take the easy option and instigate the contact looking to draw the penalty but more often than not they are staying in line following the ball.

Just had another look. If the obstructed Cas player had not been obstructed, he would have been blocked by one of the other Cas players who was trying (but failed) to tackle Carmont. Therefore he would not have got to Carmont.
Have another look at it.

That's certainly the theory, but whether a dummy runner can always guarantee a completely clear path through the defensive line is questionable. At the end of the day it's probably best to let the VR decide whether the obstruction really did contribute to the try. Doesn't help at non-televised matches though!

Heard the interview on Radio Manc last night. Interestingly he said [i"If it had gone between the posts it would have been a valid drop goal"[/i.
Although that may be true, it is highly unlikely it would have gone between the posts from the position Danny was in, and the direction he kicked it!!!
Surely the fact that Danny was [inot [/igoing for a drop goal has some influence on the decision?
