| Wigan supporters are truly an embarrassment to the sport, after ten years of reading comments on RLFans I cannot recall such an extended reaction to some innocuous passage of play against their cherry and white gods, life must be one long tirade of moaning and wailing in that no-horse town.

Phil Clarke should be ashamed of himself for that.
I wonder what alias he was using posting on the Wigan board on Sunday?

| Very reasonable of him to admit, only just, that it shouldn't have been a Penalty Try (which not even the righteous fools on Cherry & Pravda were claiming)
Clarke's article is far, far worse than anything written on the forums, or the nutsoid comment by Melling below the line, because it comes from someone who is supposed to consider what he writes, and who has the appearance to the uninitiated of someone whose opinions deserve to be listened to.
But it could be "lesson to any other writer watching that it doesn't pay to be so openly biased. Perhaps the Sky Gods should punish him for his unprofessional play."
Red Card, Phil. You should be properly disciplined.

| I lost all respect for Clarke's opinions on anything RL related a long time ago.
He's clearly in the early stages of Dementia and hopefully will lead to him being removed from the Sky screens soon.

| I agree with him... I do think McGuire would have caught Carmont but also fully understand why he did what he did and a couple of ex-pros I know have all said the same thing, that would have probably done exactly the same in the same situation. If Clarke can't understand why McGuire did it, he needs a punch in the mouth from the Rugby Gods!

| I've just asked Phil the following question:
"How many of the penalties you gave away throughout your career did you deserve a serious injury for?"
Will it get published? Will it 'eck.

| I have had a lot of respect for Clarke. I think he has opinions and they are not always popular, but generally reasonable even if you don't agree with them. I also think he's a good guy as well.
But this is total bull$!t. I can only assume that deep, deep down he's sick of the sight of Leeds beating teams that they "shouldn't". He comes from an era where everyone knew their place - losers to Wigan. And Leeds were the biggest under achievers of the lot. He's basically come across as someone who would support anyone against Leeds. His Saint Helens lovefest was a translocation of his Wigan support to a team that fitted the bill as conquerers of the teams he has deemed "unworthy". The Bulls, then us. But now Wigan are "back" his true colours are revealed.
If he has an editor then he should have rejected this. It's garbage, absolute garbage and unworthy of any serious commentator. The admission regarding a penalty try should be taken as exactly what it was. An ineference that it should have been a penalty try. I have heard nobody say it should have been a penalty try until he came along. Which means he's thought of it all by himself and decided to put his thoughts in print.
As for "injustice", "revenge". I'm sick of clubs and commentators pulling this gag. Injustice is a team being relegated because the team that should have gone down breached the salary cap to keep them in the Superleague, not a small tug on a shirt with a 1% chance of scoring a try in the last second of a game that they didn't deserve to win on their performance over the 80 minutes.
Wigan lost that game because they dropped a shedload of ball in their own half and their dicslipline was poor. They also met a team that gave them a lesson in playoff football and were organised and clinical. If they want to concentrate on anything it should be ball control.
Phil, I have lost all respect for you mate. I hope that should Leeds meet Wigan again in the playoffs this year that they post your comments on the Leeds changeing room wall.

Should be there already! What a form of motivation to have then to see Clarke having to attempt to say nice things should we win at Old Trafford

| Very very embarrassing
"Rugby Gods" WTF
Was it the Rugby God's that saved Wigan from being relegated the other year?
With all this fuss about it I still don't know how pulling a shirt can even be mentioned in the same breath as deliberately aiming a kick at another player on his knees.

| Maybe someone should show Mr Clarke and Mr Melling this table - [urlhttp://www.superleague.co.uk/page.php?id=378[/url
Hmmm, Wigan below us in the table, most penalised player in Superleague in J Tomkins and in terms of the disciplinary committee being in our pocket, their is only the Catalan Dragons received more suspensions than us... still why let the truth get in the way of anything!

I think we will play them again next week. I would love to see KR do them, but I don't think they will. It's not a great playoff system where you can play the same team twice, before you get to the Final. But that's another debate.

He can't cope with that.

No, quite a few numpties did say that, some of them not even Wigan fans. They of course ignored the fact the Carmont still had to take a pass in, which he might have dropped, run 50m, which he would not have done done because Danny M is quicker than him, which meant passing to another supporting player, who also would have to take the ball in and then actual get over the line without getting tackled!!!!
However, they are certain that in accordance with the laws of the game Alibert or Bentham would have agreed with them that a try WOULD have certainly been scored had Danny not pulled Carmont down!!!

I'd guess big Phil thought there was a case for a penalty try? He's getting beyond embarrassing. In game comments in the heat of the moment are one thing but to write a piece so far after the event, especially having had his career ended by serious injury, about rugby gods injuring players is unprofessional.
I notice Joel Tomkins kicks managed to escape the article. Though, of course, they weren't very hard and missed so that's ok.

| [iSo Mr Clarke, does Sam Tomkins deserve to be punished by the rugby gods for his cheating tactics in the tackle?
Does Joel Tomkins deserve to be punished by the rugby gods for kicking out in the tackle, TWICE in two weeks? Both on purpose I may add.
Of course not, your a Wigganer.
Shocking article.
P.s Who are these rugby gods you speak of?[/i
Lets hope it get published.

You're wrong on Sam Tomkins. What Tomkins did showed his brilliance and competitive nature. No case to answer to the rugby gods.
