I think the best position we can [u[irealistically[/i[/u hope for is 4th. We'd need to continue winning for the next couple of months, beating warrington and saints along the way to get back into contention for second spot.

Completely disagree we are good enough and have enough in the dressing room for top 2.
Every team will hit a wall in terms of form and we have quality and experience to recall so i'm more than confident(arrogant,cocky and pig headed) enough to back us for top 2.

If we take points off the top 4 teams we still have a top 2 chance, but we cannot afford to lose more than a couple more all season. This year IMO most teams will lose quite a few gamtes. If we can produce some form and a fully fit team for the playoffs we have the ability to win it from any position. However a lot of ifs.

I said realistically pal. If you step out of la la and blind faith in leeds land and take a look at the table, You'd see warrington in second place with 16 points. Saints also have 16 points. We are 5 points behind. If we won the rest of our games this season we'd need them both to lose 3. Them losing 3 is very possible. Us winning the rest of the games is highly unlikely.

If they both lost....say 6 more games this season. That's a pretty reasonable expectation i guess, we'd need to win all but 3 of our remaining games. That's definitly possible but it would take a real sustained run of form and would really need us to take points of saints next week. BUt as the title of the thread is, if we lose next week........I'd say 4th spot is a pretty realistic and reasonable expectation.

It's more than "POSSIBLE" that we can make top 2 so give this squad credit for their efforts and quality and YOU step out of "woe is us" land!

To be honest, 8th at the minute would be great!

As the table stands now (but with Leeds 8th and not 9th!!!!):

If Leeds finished 8th, we would play Hull away (beaten them twice in 2 weeks, so certainly no fears, all depends on form)

In the next round, we would then play Huddersfield away. Is it beyond the realms of possibility to beat them there, in playoff football?

We would then be potentially left with a qualifying semi final away at Wigan

To me, this is the whole problem with the top 8 system, and I said this last year (along with thousands of others I imagine) Teams are rewarded with mediocrity. Leeds have been pretty abysmal for most of the season, and were terrible in most parts tonight. Yet a win next week and we are a top 8 team. And if we stayed there, is the above path particularly daunting? Not one of those ties would have fans of either side sticking money on their team to win, that's for sure

That would be a tremendously tough ask. Remember this isn't weekly rounds. The playoffs step up in intensity and defence.

It's a tall order. FE games are tough to win at home. Let alone away from home. It's why you don't get many teams from outside the top 2 actually making a grand final.

If we finish below 4th I don't think we can realistically have expectations of making the grand final. Especially if we go far in the CC.

Mate, I'm 32, I have followed Leeds since 1987. I am possibly branded a pessimistic Leeds fan, I have seen so much sh*t over the last 20+ years. The last 6 years have brought me so much pleasure (as a Leeds fan!!!) that I thought I would never see, that I aint gonna get greedy. I actually wouldn't lose any sleep if Leeds missed out on the playoffs altogether. My point is.....that the format we have means that Leeds, even finishing eighth, would be one of the most feared sides in the playoffs. Would they be chosen by, lets say for example, Warrington, to play at home if they finished top?

I remember sitting in a bar in Spain in 2008 on holiday with a load of (very genuine, funny) Women St Helens fans. It was the night of the playoff game at Knowsley Road when they must have put 30+ points on us.
