You're right you need to keep him & Owen who looks a good prospect to me.
We need the talent spread throughout the comp to improve the standard everywhere so we can challenge the Aussies & the Kiwis.

Judging by the last time they faced each other we'd better be prepared to lower our standards and expectations if Shenton were ever to replace Senior. Frankly, he's a good player but is not fit to lace keiths' boots.

Watkins has bags more potential IMO.

If these players are of sufficient quality why is it better for them playing for the likes of Harlequins, Cas, Wakey, than moving to a top club?

Only reason I see for trotting out the line is if they won't get a game for the top club, and in which case I agree with you.

Because you get better by honing your skills against good opponents rather than having an easy ride alongside them?

Shenton is young and has years in which to become a better player and if that is at Cas then that's good....but more than likely it will be elsewhere sadly.

If we decide we want him we'll just take him.

I thought he did well for England but I don't think he'll ever be as good as Senior. I'd prefer Watkins, I hope he can reach his potential.

Shenton isn't all that anyway. I would much rather Watkins replaces Senior. But, he does need more game time. Maybe we should consider sending him out on loan for 3 months or so?

With Jones-Bishop out on loan, having Watkins out too would leave Leeds seriously stretched in terms of cover for both wing and full-back positions.

IIRC isn't there a rule whereby you can't recall in the first month of a loan spell?

I'd rather see Watkins get the chance at Leeds and I also think Watkins has got more potential to his game than Shenton, if he ever reaches it is another thing.

Because what we want is a league where every game is tough so the players can't just go through the motions. The top players need to be playing at a higher intensity.

In a league consisting of a big 2, then a host of mediocre clubs beneath them, then that will not happen.

I can only wonder what sort of fate you'd wish upon a player you didn't like.

I think we can also point to the respective careers of the two players. Shenton was built up in that particular game and Senior gave him a masterclass.

I can understand the principle of what is said, but we are years and years and years away from that.

In the meantime, if every potentially really good player plays alongside mediocre players they will just not improve. Therefore the logic of making us stronger internationally goes out the window.

I understand it needs to start somewhere, but it will always be catch up working that way.

Michael Coady will be the man to replace Senior.
