its good to read that the club are considering commissioning a statue of the great man as part of the south stand redevelopment.
I also look forward to the book about his life and career coming out soon

Excellent, I would love for it to be renamed the John Holmes South Stand when its rebuilt at the end of the season. Its fitting and it roles off the tongue, much better then the Leeds Building Society South Stand

I think we should drop South from the title and make it the John Holmes Stand, new stand, new era, time for a change. In that way it does also mean that any sponsor could still be accommodated and the title made a little shorter by taking out the word 'South'. The Leeds Building Society John Holmes Stand is ok isn't it? I am not attached to the word South and not sure why anyone else would be... it is just a point on a compass!

Honestly, I dont think the club will lose the South part of the SS name. Simply because it is a good marketing tool and has in the past been seen on jumpers, t-shirts and coats etc.

If they take the south bit out of the name the Fekwits wont have a clue where to go so it can only ever be a bonus.

I don't particularly mind either way about losing the 'South' bit, I would hate to see it called the 'John Holmes Stand' and then have a company name stuck in front of it.
If the club want to honour John Holmes then either re-name the stand and leave it without a corporate sponsor, or if the club need the money from the sponsor then build a statue or some other relevant honour instead.

I'm not sure why, I would just hate the honouring of a player like John Holmes to be joined in with a corporate sponsor.

Blackpool FC have that one down to an art.

Actually Rob, I think you might have convinced me and I think you are right. If they put a John Holmes statue close to the redeveloped stand it may start to get unofficially known as the John Holmes Stand anyway and the club could just put the name/sponsorship of the stand out as they see fit.

In response to the marketing and use of the South Stand logo/brand, it has not been used for a few years now and I would argue it was never the strongest brand anyway. I think the South Stand will be history, a well and fondly remembered one, but history none the less.

The memory of Joh Holmes will not pay the bilils.

I am sure there is another way to honour his memory. In the Carnegie Stand we have the Lewis Jones Suite so it can be done.

Personally I would love it to be The John Holmes Stand. However, when Sam Burgess is thinking of coming back to Blighty in 5 years & the Rhinos need some cash the temptation to rename it in honour of the New University Metropolitan Polytechnic Technology Yorkshire Stand will be too much.

Yep like I say I don't mind if the club do need the sponsorship money from the renaming of the Stand but I think any "honour" to John Holmes should be seperate from any corporate sponsorship.

Not sure why, just like Bramleyrhino, it makes me go urgh to think of it!
