| Back where we belong at the basement of the Guiness premiership, a healthy whooping at home, and a massive crowd of 6,000 !!
And director of rugby stating "But we certainly still believe and we'll be measuring ourselves against the sides who we feel we can get a result against."
So three games in, and the director of rugby recognising there only certain games where they can get a result.
Abandon hope !!

Before you slag the RU club off for attaining a 6,000 crowd i would look closer to home
I hate RU and everything associated with it, but i would guess that the RU club would be very happy with that attendance, and would hope for much the same throughout the season
consider the fact that the Saint Helens attendance in their play off game against Huddersfield attracted a whopping 6,157 spectators, i would guess that the Saints would be the more dissapointed clubicon_wink.gif

In other words, Leeds Tykes were more popular amongst the locals this weekend than Wakefield Trinity and almost as popular as St Helens.
As for the opposition, a defeat to last year's Grand Finalists is hardly a measure as to their survival credentials.

| How often do people on here need to be told that (apart from the effect on the pitch) there are massive benefits in sharing with the Leeds Tykes.
Without that connection Caddick would not have come on board & without his money where would the Rhinos be now.
Plus it has significant ongoing financial benefits to the Rhinos, it's a pity that some on here are too stupid, bigoted or both to see this.

I know about the benefits they have brought in the past but I'd be interested to know what benefits they could bring in the future. I assume Caddick thought they'd served their purpose when he offloaded them onto Carnegie.

| People forget how low our crowds were when i started watching them. How would our crowd hold up if we were in the same position as the Carnegie team in the table? Would we be pulling 15k or 8k?. We have a hardcore of 8 to 9k imho no more.

That's the same argument as saying that if we didn't spend money on (for example) arms we could solve the world's poverty.
Well similar if not the same, I'm sure you get my drift.
It has to be a better business model to have the place used for 12 months rather than just for 6 or 7.

| As I posted on another thread, it seems that our 'kicking and clapping' cousins have got their act together at club level and are attracting significant crowds at the start of the season.
We've had half-empty stadia in our 'finals'!

Maybe but his main interest was always RU & his (& GH's) longterm objective was IMO to bring both operations together under one umbrella organisation. For the mutual benefit of both.

| Caddick is a businessman first and a sport benefactor second.
Without Gary Hetherington I would question whether Caddick would have come on board at all but the fact(?) remains he invested first in the League set up at Headingley, so the notion that Caddick wouldn't be here but for the Union club appears misguided.
I thought he'd relinquished his majority interest in them anyway when they re-branded as Carnegie?

You don't think there may have been a business plan to involve a Union team of some description, manufactured or bought-out, in the same stylee and at the same time as whats-is-face of Metro Centre fame was doing in Newcastle ?
Or did it just happen by a nice coincidence ?

A ground share with a Union club was first envisaged by Alf Davies pre Super League so it'd be wrong to say that Caddick was oblivious to the possibility.
But he didn't come to Headingley with a Union club already there or with one under his grace (which is what was implied earlier) that came along much later when the original Leeds RU club directors failed to make an impact at Headingley.
Did Caddick oust them or did he agree to the takeover which then became Leeds Rugby? Did he set out to achieve it or was it an happy/unhappy coincidence?

Why wouldn't he just buy out the RU club?
His motivation in coming to Leeds CF&A Ltd had nothing to do with Union. It quickly became part of his business plan and then it eventually went out of it.
If the Union side bring so many benefits why did Caddick rid us of it to Carnegie?

| Like DHM, I don't have a problem with the Union version of our game, although it can be a bore fest at times.
Caddick is a very astute business man, and his primary interest was in the Headingley site as a whole. I'm pretty sure his original business plan encompassed both Rugby Codes and the Yorkshire Cricket side of the ground.
It's been a nice little earner for him, and without his input, I suspect we would have been deep in the mire.
