Living 11 miles from RAF Conningsby we usually get to see the Lancaster (and pals) overhead most summer weekends. One of the perks for being 100 miles from home.

Back to your question and yes this will be the first time since that fateful match on the 24th April 1977 (Keith Senior' 1st birthday) that Leeds have played Salford on the final weekend of the League season.

I got back as far as 1959/60 and didn't find another occurrence.

Here's hoping for a better day than last time then although in truth almost anything will be a better day than that.

Have you got Ken Dalby's Headingley Story part one? I believe the stats etc for pre 1959/60 are in there. I have got it somewhere.. I will dig it out and have a look.

Second last game in 1938/39 and also 1958/59 but that's as near as it gets if you ignore going to Swinton which Leeds have done on numerous last weekends.

So in the history of the Leeds and Salford clubs it's happened once.

I hate them they've replaced my beloved F3's.

They fly a different profile on leaving Conningsby than the F3's did and we barely notice them at all here...... ba5tards. Not allowed to (and no need to) engage afterburners on take-off.....ba5tards. Where's the fun in that.

At least we still have the practise displays to look forward to in the spring, if it weren't for those I might as well move back home and watch some rugby.

I like the Typhoons and have enjoyed watching them the last 8 months or so. When the do the vertical climb from about 300ft just after take off and the afterburners are in full effect you have to hang on to your wig. Some of the sharp banks they do, at the sppeds i have seen, well, have to be seen to be believed, it's that sharp.

Where is this that you are watching them these last 8 months? Are these in service aircraft going about their normal business?

Like I say we see none of that where I live unlike when we used to see multiple F3's daily. Whichever end they were using we'd catch them either going in or going out, no burner but still noisey.

Lucky if we see a typhoon breaking cloud cover these days although when they use the ILS on 08 (I think it'll probably be 07 or 09 these days, BBMF end we call it) they pass overhead on their way to picking up talkdown.

Don't get me wrong I still love 'em just don't see as much of them here.

I wasn't there that day (more's the pity) but I've been to loads of Taxi Days at Bruntingthorpe and I can safely say at the point she got airborne there is no-one remotely allowed bar an odd official photographer waiting to capture a brake chute shot.

Who knows indeed, assuming the worst case scenario that would have been two (pilot and co-pilot) or possibly three or four depending if the photographers had unfortunately got in the way (which they didn't in any case - if they were any down at the mid point at all.)

Superb piloting skills all the same.
