Find it quite funny that any rival clubs would be interested in a spent force like him.

If he does leave - and the article suggests thats not what he wants - he will probably end up at a Salford/Celtic type club and do a great job for them for 2 years. Personally I would be more than happy to see him stay with us for another year at least and would love him to finish his career with us.

I sense that therein lies the problem. Everyone would be happy with another year, but he wants a longer contract than that. Would you be happy with another 3?

That is the problem, he is honest about it in the article and I can understand why he is looking at his options elsewhere as he wants 2 years but I can understand why the club will only offer one and I agree with that.

I would be worried - simply because of his age more than anything - if they offered him a two year deal, but would have no worries about a one year deal with the possibility of another year if the club felt that would right at the time.

I quite agree. To be honest, if he can get a 2 or 3 year deal somewhere else it might be best all round. Can he keep playing at a title-challenging level for 3 more years? i doubt it. Can he keep playing at mid-table level and help some youngsters develop? Probably. I can see why he wants a longer deal, and I can see why the club don't want to offer him one. Despite the chortling of some fans on here, you can't fault the guy's record in domestic RL, and I'm sure a club like Celtic, Salford, Halifax or Bradford would get great value out of him.

Exactly, I would hate to see him playing for another team but I can fully understand why he is looking at his options and wish him luck with whatever decision he makes - he has been a fantastic player for Saints there is no disputing that.

There appears a blindingly obvious solution to this dilemma, pay him half his salary per year and give him a two year deal.

Sounds like contract bolstering hype to me – “I want another two years but St’s are plying hard ball so I’ll stick out a press release just to let them know how serious I am even though I have no intention of leaving at all.”

We dont really mind, we just score 4-5 extra tries to compensate
