| put a cheeky bid in for Mathers?? Seems he is on his way to hull, but we could play him at full back, moving Smith to centre. When Webb comes back, it gives us extra cover at full back and in the halfs should we need it

| No, no, no.
That Mathers has long since sailed, this one is a pale imitation.

| Disagree. Think he is very low on confidence, and think he could come in and do a job in the squad for us. Would also mean that we could release Ablett to go into the second row instead of centre for us if Ash or another centre was to get injured.

I see what yer saying emm but Bjb is nearing full fitness and going by what bluey has been saying in the league publications and the yep expect to see him back there sooner rather than later.
P.s As much as i like mather's his time has gone imo maybe in the future who knows but Bjb for me every time.

That's fair enough but as Leeds generally don't do sloppy seconds it's all rather academic.
Mathers has shown nothing (bar one match V Leeds) since his return to suggest he could hold down a starting place at Wigan let alone Leeds. IMO of course.

Mercer?*

There have been a few notable exceptions hence the 'generally' bit to the comment but they were very much in the minority. IIRC, of the 132 players to have represented Leeds in the SL Era only Mercer and Dean Bell have had two debuts with the club.

| He seems to be too much of a liberty for Wigan now. I think he played his best rugby when he was with us, now when he isn't injured he'll be getting suspended.

| Do we need him? We have strong cover for Webb in Smith and an upcoming youngster in BJB, if we should buy anyone at this present time... it should be a centre.

| Unfortunately Mathers is a shadow of his former self whether this is down to confidence or injuries or that he's at a club that seems not to really want him. I suspect it's a combination of all.
So to answer Emma's question it would be a no go for me.

| Given Warrington's chronic fullback problem, could he go there save their massive salaries and the risk of them exceeding the cap to land him ?

Absolutely not.
Mathers at his best was still no where near as good as Webb or Smith at fullback.
He had his qualities to the team, which sadly seem to have diminished now. But no way should we go back there.

| I'd bring him in on a contract that suited us. His confidence is shot at the moment and it wasnt helped by a softcock Wigan pack not doing their job.
The fekwitted Wigan fans didnt seem to notice that last year though.
Who says he has to play full back anyway. He could be used as a utility and is capable of filling in at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

| IMO Mathers has been the worst full back in SL in the past 12 months, so it's a nil poi from me.

We also re-signed Simon Irving IIRC when we saved keighley, but I don't think he ever made it into the 1sts second time around (thank goodness).
As for Mathers, sadly, no. Great player though he was for us we have Webb, Smith and BJB in the stalls.
Let this be a lesson. The grass isn't always greener. If you leave for pastures new or big money RU you may end up losing all your skills playing for a vastly inferior team like Wigan.
