with the high % of players just not making it in kick and clap im suprised the clubs continue taking RL players. there must be some good agents about. cant see smith been that great at union. it must have been the GF 40/20 that got the rara's fizzing at the bum hole? lololol
on the up side he's still young enough to go get his cash and come back and be half the player he was before he left

I'd hope not. He seems to have turned things around on the pitch (i've no idea if this is because his off the pitch issues are sorted).
However, it's not long since there were all the Wigan Rumours flying about. Didn't he only sign a 1 year extension at the end of last year?

What position they going to play him? It will be a big loss if he goes but I can't see him being great at Union tbh. Hopefully a nice transer fee is it's true.

Well I hope for Lee's sake this is true, what a great opportunity for him to play the bigger and more successful code of Rugby. Being coached by a Rugby League and now Rugby Union legend who clearly knows his stuff as Wales will testify to!
His play over the last few months of the season was superb and he appears to be wanting to progress his career, this is a move in a positive direction for him! Well Done Lee!

Yes and yes. Contract ending 2009, serious Wigan approach in 2008.
The bottom line is I don't think anything new was agreed anytime during 2008. Leeds somewhat belatedly realised his worth and ended discussions with Wigan.

i remember something along those lines, around the time he was dropped wigan made a bid, we considered it, he came back, had a storming end so we offered him a new deal

It's quite possible I missed the new deal part but a link to said deal would end the confusion. As he was already contracted for 2009 a new deal wasn't altogether necessary at that point.
I do recall Hetherington talking about a window of opportunity (Smith to Wigan) closing in mid 2008. |
