| Why does the Sky commentators make out like the World Club Challenge is the biggest thing ever. Is it so people will actually tune in a watch, because nobody ever goes to the games, and the Aussies don’t care about it. Apparently Manly are going to trial Tony Williams, a centre or winger, in the second row in this game.
And you never hear about it in the Aussie media either. I remember in 2003 seeing one (and one only) back page article on the fact that the Roosters won it in the NRL 2003 preview mag. Never mentioned during games, did not see a TV news report on it either.
Is the importance of the WWC one sided, why do the Sky commentators care about it so much, and why do the Aussies care so little?

| The WCC, CC and Hubcap are all very nice trophies to be picked up, but I would readily accept losing all 3 as long as Leeds win the Grand Final in October.

It certainly is one sided from a results point of view.
Quote ="Kiwis 473" and why do the Aussies care so little?'"
because they (for once) cant twist and bend the rules to suit themselves.

Is that the best you can do?
This wouldn't be the same Tony Williams who played in Tonga's second row throughout last year's World Cup, would it?

The second paragraph hits the nail on the head mate. 2003 was the last time an Australian team won it and therefoe is the only reason it made the sports pages over there. Australia have a bad habbit of sweeping under the carpet anything remotly embarrasing with regards to sport. The wifes best mate lives in Sydney and told us there was no mention on the news or in any of the papers the day after the Yawnion boys won the world cup over there. Apparently it was the same with the Ashes aswel.

| Australian Rugby League (footy) isn’t a very popular sport in Australia so they are going to be even less interested in a game that doesn’t take place right under their noses.

Are you joking?
Its much bigger than Rugby League is in England, just look at the registered amount of people playing in both countries compared to population size.

Apparently in terms of registered participation (although not in spectator numbers) football (that's soccer to you lot) is the most popular sport in Australia. Slightly surprising.

It’s that big a sport that the first World Cup final in eight years, featuring the two countries with the biggest Rugby League rivalry on the planet (one being the host nation) didn’t manage to sell out???
Makes you think...??

| The English side always takes it seriously. Never name a weakened line up and seem determined to win, look at the rhinos last year. Thought both teams gave their all in bad conditions (although storm were missing a few big players).
