I dont want a minutes silence on Friday - it should be a minute's applause, to recognise one of the best Leeds players ever.

Not sure what you all think about it out there, but we should applaud this guy for his brilliance on the hallowed turf.

Headlingley was his stage. He would appreciate the applause.

Personally I preferred the way it was done when Jane Tomlinsons death was honoured at Headingley - a proper minutes silence followed by a round of applause - best of both worlds.

No. If you want to show respect for the memory of someone, you stand quietly in silence.

I detest the football style round of applause, which has evolved only as the result of the gormless minority being unable to behave in a civilised manner for 60 seconds.

But as soon as the whistle was blown to end this one minutes silence, that the whole ground started clapping for a further minute?

This IMO would be the ideal way to show the utmost respect for the ultimate Leeds player of all time

What you'll find now is that the people who can't stand in silence for one minte will try and defend the idea of the football-stylee applause, whereas really, deep down inside, we all know why they have to do it and we all know its indefensible.

Not at all. To stand in quiet contimplation surrounded by fans all paying their quiet respect to a true giant of the game is phenominal. To hear the flags cracking in the wind on top of the southstand and the sounds of the city in the background is fantastic. Then the wall of noise when the whistle goes to banish the silence, is just frankly amazing.

On friday, i will reflect on my memories of John Holmes
"The Man" during the one minutes silence

I will then have to clap, because IMO that is a true reflection of John Holmes "The Player"

Followed by another minute of 'Theres only one John Holmes' or similar after the applause ...

Could we make the minute's silence even more respectful / apprecative by a 'carpet' of scarves being raised aloft across the South Stand ?

Who is gonna speak to the band ? Get them to play a slow 'There was only one John Holmes' after the silence .
That and the scarves would be a top tribute in my opinion .

I don’t believe there is a better way to respect a player, especially one of Johns calibre, than with a minutes silence.

A top guy , must be one of the best players ever to wear the Leeds shirt .

Certainly up there, along with my other favourite,Mr M Glanville who was held together by stick back plastic and rubber bands, i worshipped that guy.
