| It will be very interesting to see how he goes. He clearly hasn't got the speed of Parcell, but he might add more than some people think if he can play smarter for us than other options at 9.

| I liked what i saw from Lunt the last time he was with us. Can't say i have followed him too closely since but he strikes me as the kind of character you would want in your 17 for this situation so not a bad move for me.

He was also KRs captain for a fair while, we are lacking leaders he could do a job in that respect

I suspect the club is planning 100% around the development of Johnson into a real quality hooker, and they see Lunt as an experienced head to assist with that. It isn't just about what Lunt may or may not do on the field.
The 1-year deal for Dwyer makes me think Leeds are basically saying he has this time to prove he can improve the weaknesses in his game.
One of the problems has been that both Dwyer and Parcell are running hookers who thrive off a quick ruck, and we don't have a Plan B when our pack isn't on top (quite often). Lunt when he does play could be a more steadying influence in the middle when the going is tougher.

| I was impressed with Lunt when he was here last time. Quick accurate pass from dummy half, he may also provide some leadership which we are crying out for.
The question marks are against his injury and illness record . Not good in recent years?

| Interesting that it's only a loan, i reckon he wants to go back to the NRL and didn't want to tie himself into a contract, however doesn't that mean we still have him contracted for next year?

Here you go

from Sinfield
"“This continues our work to renovate the squad for next season and allows us room to look at recruiting for this season and the future both in terms of the salary cap and the overseas quota,” added Sinfield."
Which is what we've been saying.

Perfect, very happy with that - Lunt only contracted til the end of this season is good.
Tui to Salford is now the big thing. Lui and Hastings / Sezer replacing Parcell and Tui is a major boost to our survival chances. It’s just whether we can pull the deals off for this season.

| Key question is does this free up an additional quota spot? So with Tui going there would be 2 spots free with one being taken by Lui..

| Lunt for the rest of the season with chance of another year is ideal - if it works he'll be back, if not we look elsewhere.

Yes I was a bit worried we'd sign him for next year as well, this is good.
I always liked Lunt, was disappointed when we let him go. Granted, not the same player these days.
Another angle to this for me is that it fires a shot across the bows of every single contracted player at Leeds; if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem and we will act.

I do rate Parcell as a player, but I am happy with this deal, Lunt is a different type of player and his game is probably more suited to how we are playing. Quick play the balls are what Parcell needs and that just isn't us at the moment. Lunt is a tough, more traditional style hooker and a leader

Totally agree.
Johnson may be an 80-minute hooker in the end. However if we're going to run with 2x hookers in Dwyer and Parcell, for me they are just too similar in that they're front-foot players. We don't have enough in D when the tide is against us, or good enough distribution from dummy half for me.
Lunt is a different style to Dwyer which gives us, in theory, better balance.
We've also got to consider morale etc. behind the scenes in tough times for the club. If Parcell is on the outer he just needs to be gone out of the environment. Lunt will be positive and looking to impress.

| First class bit of business by the club. Quota space, lowered the cap spend and didn't offer Lunt a long contract.
Really pleased with this so hats of to the administration.

| You're all talking as though we're getting the Lunt of 2012 we aren't getting anywhere near that.
Swopping Parcell for a past it Lunt strengthens a relegation rival no matter what spin Sinfield puts on it.
The only tiny positive is that he isnt signed for 2020.

Excuse me for being a know nowt as described on the other thread. But this is the Lunt who has started one game this year we are talking about.

| Bigger picture gents.
This is about getting rid of a player we didn't want and one of many who hasn't been performing to previous standards. In doing so we have freed up cap space and a quote spot.
If it makes you happier think of this as losing a hooker and gaining a decent Hb with the added bonus of Tui's cap spend and quote spot also going.

| Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that Lolohea was not a full quota player (Non fed trained but not quota) whereas Rob Lui is full quota.
That would mean that to sign Lui a full quota player (Parcell) would have to make way.
It also means that you now only have a non fed spot free not a full quota spot and therefore you cannot sign Jackson Hastings at present.
