| as a health professional working in a mental health unit i've got to say that that article is a brilliant read and should deserve a wider exposure
as paul says depression can affect anyone, i've nursed drug addicts, actors, sportsmen, business leaders and doctors as well as members of my own family
i urge anyone suffering to talk....to anyone it doesn't matter as anyone can help in these situations

| If he's written that all on his lonesome, he's shown maturity beyond his years and as another poster has said, some form of journalism could be his post rugby calling.
Plus kudos to Paul Wood for speaking so honestly about his feelings, coming from a sport that is perceived for its toughness.

| After experiencing the utter devastation that comes from the aftermath of NOT speaking out I have to say that is a very, very powerful and humbling read.
We know we have a game where even the ballboys are tough as nails but to hear this from a former top level player, one who has been playing for a successful team etc is a warning to all of the dark side of the sport, infact any walk of life.
I thank him for his bravery of speaking out.

| Really encouraging to hear the increased awareness and support for mental health. Having struggled with clinical depression and associated mental health problems for over 20 years, being open has only come to me in the last few years but meant im still here. Theres increased understanding for 'situational depression' but less about clinical illness which id like to see improve.

| Terrific read. Every article, interview, tweet, etc. that comes from people in the public eye regarding how they have had to deal with emotional and mental health issues reduces the stigma and gets more people seeking the treatment they need - medical or otherwise. Your mind is part of the body, it can get sick, need rest, be overwhelmed or need medication. Time we stopped thinking of the mind and body as separate and realized both are one.
