I thought that the salary cap was "live" i.e. the RFL have to approve any signings are within the salary cap limits. With this in mind, we still have Hardaker on our books for 2017 so we would not be able to announce/sign anyone until this issue is solved. Clubs now know that we have already said that he wont be returning here next year so they can hold out and get him on the cheap. Wigan have signed a full back, Hull KR are now in the Championship and Penrith would only be interested in a free utility player. So I think his options are limited.
I'd say with Golding it will all come down to physicality. I like the way he looks to hit the line, and he seems more likely to add a passing game than Hardaker ever did. But it will all come to nought if he gets bombed to destruction or can't make tackles count.
