“I didn’t think we played all night. I didn’t think we looked in the game for the majority of it, it was only the final stages when we decided to be a bit more attacking and wake up.
“I’d give Hull KR a lot of credit, right from the off they had some intent defensively and shut down pretty much everything we tried.”
McDermott refused to blame Rhinos’ lengthy injury list or any controversial decisions for Rhinos’ defeat.
“There was enough good people on the field to be able to win that game,” he stressed.
“I don’t think we had enough intent or energy for the first 65 minutes, which is what we will look at.
“There were some positives, it’s not the poorest performance I’ve seen, but it just lacked energy."[/i'"
This, to me, says it all.
He might as well have said "we were poor and I've no idea why. I don't have a clue how to get my team to play well. I've been out-coached and out-thought. But let's look at the positives".
Under McDermott we've become a boring team. There's often no apparent plan in attack, no ideas when we're near the opponent's line. Flat, predictable, tired performances.
But while Sinfield says he's the best coach he's ever worked with and while McDermott keeps Hetherington sweet I can't see when he'll go.
