I'm with you on this one.

I've been to many Christmas markets in many and various German towns and cities and in none of them have I noticed a beer tent.
I'm guessing that's because a) there's nothing cheery about ice-cold lager in a tent in the depths of winter ... and b) Decent lager isn't a novelty in Germany, you can just pop into any local hostelry, just like normal.

A hot mug of Glühwein, on the other hand, is a seasonal thing, it warms you inside and you're still sober enough to browse the other stalls.

Why is everyone so bothered about getting in the tent? We always go but we just get a beer outside then go elsewhere. Those hotdog things they sell are putrid too.

Only when its dripping in gravy...
