In this instance I feel its valid. The grand final is the toughest domestic game in the season. A players ability to play in a position (especially at centre where you tend to play the full 80, get through a load of work, and get fairly well exposed) during the toughest game of the season shows some good level of ability there.
Francis Meli played there in 2011, and was shown up twice in about 5 minutes by Burrow, and by Ablett himself, though Meli is no stranger to the feeling of having an influence in Leeds scoring at Old Trafford.
IMO, the only part of a centres skillset that he lacks is pace, which is not all that necessary when you have hall on your outside and mcguire on your inside
