IIRC there was another image for that shirt on the website that dated it as belonging to either 1997 or 1998 I think it was.

It was captioned 'Dave Brown' who was an unknown to me at 1st grade level in '97 although we did have Gavin Brown on the playing register albeit I had him listed as 25 rather than 26 that season.

It's only a guess but it's possible that the 26 shirt in question was issued to Gavin Brown for 1998 but as he didn't play 1st grade that season (nor did anyone else wearing 26) it was never worn in anger - at least not in 1st grade.
