I received this book for my birthday and having started watching Leeds as a kid in the late 80's and early 90's don't really remember John at all.

I expected to enjoy reading the book, and am obviously aware of the various Cup Finals etc, but for a lot of the content to not really be something I could relate to.

What I didn't expect was to finish it in a couple of days, be sucked into the enthralling life of a man I only know of my repuatation, and finish the final chapter with tears streaming down my face. As I put the book down tonight I felt like I had witnessed part of this great man's career and am envious of people who had the opportunity to be part of those great days.

An extremely well written book which gave an incredible insight into the life and career of a man obviously held in the highest regard by his peers.

I think I am going to make a purchase

I was born in the early 90's, so I never got the pleasure of watching John play. Reading the book really shows a true legend of Leeds Rugby League. Reading of his abilities to change games, and seeming to revolutionise passing and attacking plays. The last chapter made me a bit misty eyed, yet I have never seen the man play, I know he will be missed greatly. An excellent read.
