I played against Queens in the mid/late seventies twice in the Leeds & District Cup for a new team called United Services Club based on York Road. The first game played at Queens we were heavily defeated 35-10 but we managed to hold them to 11-6 at half time. Their tactics were completely different after half time as nearly every tackle was accompanied by knees, fists, finger nails, threats etc. We came away defeated but with our heads held high to think we'd held a well established team for so long before the resorted to what we learnt was usual tactics.
The second time we played them was a year later in the 3rd round of the cup, we'd already defeated Corpus Christie and Woodway and had a stronger team. The game I remember flared up immediately when one of their forwards disputed the referee's decision to award myself a try and when the referee stood by his decision it seemed I was then the target of their frustration each time I touched the ball. We didn't do ourselves justice and many of our team retaliated and the game finished with two men of each side being sent off. We finally lost 16-11.
I watched Queens many times and their bullying tactics were always in evidence which was a shame because they had some fantastic players.

My uncle played for against them for either The Prospect or Waterloo in the mid to late seventies and as he went over in the corner for a try his opposite number bit a chunk out of his back side.'"
