No team has EVER won the grand final after winning the "new dated" Challenge Cup, so if the Saints get to Wembley and win, then there chances of success in a Grand Final are not good.
I think a major factor in the play offs this season is the likes of Cayless, Faasavalu, Roby, Wellens, Long etc etc will all go into them relatively fresh.
The current injury situation at saints could turn out to be beneficial when the play off series comes around.
