Yep, that was a big one too.
Having heard from the horses mouth what happened, made me think an already sketchy coaching appointment was even worse than first thought.

Spot on - he may well not have gone to the club offering the highest salary, but there are plenty of other ways to sweeten an offer of employment that quite frankly, Leeds and certainly Cas, don't have access to; he's gone for the deal that offered him the best terms and that's fine and dandy - I've done the same myself twice in recent years and would do the same again, as would virtually everyone else if they've got any sense.

Hope not, he's made his bed.
We dont want an old man, he'll be 35 by then nearly 36.
I'd like to think we will have a good young and experianced team by then.
He had his chance but ££££££££ sign's won in the end.

Having heard it from the coach and our CEO, I disagree. I think what happened was correct and I would have done exactly the same.

| As for Ellis, I'm disappointed and to an extent I've lost respect for him. To come out and say I'd like to play for X to finish my career then change is mind in a year I find very confusing.
He surely knew the position of the club when making those statements and we are ambitious so I find his comments a tad disrespectful to us too although I'm not sure it was intended that way.
Needless to say, the boat has now passed and it's time to move on. Don't want him in three years time when the best years of his career are likely to have gone. He had an opportunity to help the club out and build for the future and because a fans' favourite and didn't.

| Obviously i'm delighted that he's decided to sign for us. I would say however that I would be a little peeved if I was a Cas fan at the quote that he has come out with in the statement to the extent of "I wanted to go to my hometown club of Castleford, but then I realised that I was still ambitious and want to win things" or words to that effect. I dont see why he had to say that.

You are obviously more continental in Hull, we don't even have a fish and chip shop in Boston Spa so we have to make do with fish fingers from Costcutter!
Looking forward to a good game on Sunday though!

If you think this club is ambitious then you're seriously deluded.
A club with ambition doesn't "improve" the squad by adding Steve Nash et al.
After last year they had a terrific chance to kick on but what did they do? They did what always happens under Wright, they go backwards crap coaching appointment and crap signings.
Another point: Why do people think Ellis has missed an importunity to play for Cas? Cas have missed out on him by being so unambitious it's pathetic.

| The same "crap signings" that are actually leading from the front. I note you did not mention Lee Mitchell or Grant Millington in your little charade there? The same Josh Griffin that is our top try scorer? Funny how we can't score for toffee now he's out the squad?
As for the coaching appointment, I cannot believe you have even said that; the man has barely had a chance to do things at the club. After hearing him speak on several occasions, Millward has won over many fans already and people genuinely want him to succeed. He's having to live with TM's legacy, which he can change from next season onwards.
As for Cas being unambitious. A load of poppycock but given the comments made in the foregoing points, I can see why.

Mitchell couldn't break out of a paper bag and misses far too many tackles but because he's a 100%er people love him
Millington has had a decent start
Griffin can't tackle, can't pass but because he's got a few tries again everyone loves him, Ainscough knows how to score tries but he's hardly brilliant is he?

Give a good coach a full off-season and they can turn a club round, Millward had a full off-season and this team is defending worse and attacking worse.
Wait until next season? Jesus christ how many times have we heard that. Remember 4 years ago when RW said in 3 years Cas will be winning the league and spending the full cap? The club are further away from both of them now than they were back then!
If you want the proof good coaches turn teams round instantly, see Maguire and Brown as examples.

Well, they are. When was the last time the club did anything even close to being positive?
They even lose out on players to London now.

| Don't blame Ellis for going to Hull. No doubt the most money, but they're a good side too, with potential to be top 4, reach finals, and no threat at all of losing their license. Nice ground, passionate crowd. Don't blame him. As for Cas, we've not lost anything, we never had him. We'll have a fair bit of room on our cap for next season, lets hope we can sign 1 or 2 exciting players.

Not the most money, but the best deal overall.
The rest is spot on - Hull are everything Cas will be striving to be in the future.

| Lee Mitchell has missed a total of 9 tackles. The person with the highest amount in the League has 22. There's not one Cas player in the top 25 on the SL website. Go figure.
Griffin has had a difficult job but with a decent centre inside him and playing on his preferred side (the left - even he admitted this himself), he will be a good acquisition. As a winger his job is to score tries. The majority of the defensive work should be from those guys inside him.
You really reckon that a coach can change things in just a few months? Crikey, you have high expectations. Given that Millward walked into a job where the majority of the players were already contracted for this season, there's not much he could have done in terms of recruitment, especially when his policy was retaining our youth. Citing examples of Maguire and Brown, both who had money at their disposal is silly.
Who is this supposed player we missed out on signing then?

Tony Smith turned Warrington round in the middle of a season, Maguire turned Wigan around with a full off-season, Nathan Brown did the same Huddersfield - Cas could have had a coach up at this level but they cheaped out.

Well, read the thread title If the club showed the ambition you think they have, they would have been able to get him...but guess what, people see right through Wright's spin.

| No you mentioned a player who signed for London?
All the examples you're citing are teams who have UNDERACHIEVED with a good squad already in place (and another significant factor: money). I'm confident, I'd be able to have a good stab at turning some of those around.
You're expecting nothing short of a miracle if you're expecting Millward to come in heal all the players overnight and turn us into world champions. Sometimes you have to take one step back to move two forward. I'd suggest the players, of whom most are out of contract, don't seem to be doing the Cas shirt justice.

Kaufusi.
Now that we can agree on! Most of the team just don't look bothered which is rather worrying.

Agreed.
Are we seeing history repeating itself...the last truly successful Hull side was well stocked with players signed/hailing from the Cas/Fev area (and comparitively few from Humberside ).
