| Quote ="mdean"Of course you must heed mistakes of the past, but similarly sometimes you don't change for the sake of it, there is a lot to be said in teams and brand values to continue development and progression, not bring in a new figure head who changes a lot..... Few can argue we have progressed in four years.
I think the distinction with AH's experience is that unlike the others mentioned when they got the top job - AH DOES have experience of bad times, relegations, struggles and has been around those things, particularly thinking of Steady, he had not. so when it came it was new to him and hard to handle.
I would also suggest respectfully of AH's career compared to Steady's that he was not a natural athlete and it did not come as easy to him as it did to GS - hence why GS struggled with the training mentality and instilling the discipline of looking after yourself for players, where AH I would suggest had to work a lot harder. (Note here, I would love to have been as average as AH, I have no discernable sporting talent and anyone who ever saw me with a ball or boots will tell you that)
I am not wedded to any plan to speak of, but each new coach has to get a shot sometime.'"
I get what you are saying and Steady was a it of a freak, but AH was an outstanding natural youngster who easily slotted in on the wing.

| I wonder if RW, BN and RM would notice a stray Whino eavesdropping. To hear all this he can't be far away. In fact, are you sat at the same table?

Seriously though, if what you're putting is true, it makes me wonder how much influence Goldy has at our club if he is invited to meetings like that. Especialyl if he is slagging the current coach off. Not exactly a good impression on a new coach!

| Just for those interested... it wasn't me that was spying. I was safely at work.
My Mrs was sat on the very next table having been for a swim, and despite being a diehard Rhinos fan, she looks like she wouldn't even know what a Rugby ball was. So that's probably why they're talking so openly. I was just regurgitating her emails to you lot as I thought you'd be interested.
Oh, and RMc offered to buy her a coffee. Perhaps he's trying to recruit her for his shed.

| Heart says Kear, head says Anderson then Noble. I would think RHinos would settle for any of those 3 + Morgan. We have an abundance of riches available at the moment it seems.

So, let's get this straight. She starts spreading nasty gossip about Goldy dissing his current boss, and he offers to buy her a coffee. I hope she had the good grace to apologise.

| Is it just me, or should we all be feeling pretty confident of a licence with the likes of Anderson; Morgan; and Noble all being strongly linked with the vacancy?
Couldn't see any of these expressing any interest if we were deemed as unlikely to even be playing in Super League.
And - for what it's worth - i'd have any of them!

| Kear can get the tactics right and can manage a middle of the road squad, but would he take us anywhere ?
Anderson would be good for us, but could he handle our small squad without much money to bring any other players in ?
Noble did well with Bradford, but do we want to change to his Bradford style of play ?
To be honest i'd be happy with any of these 3 but my favourite would be Anderson.

| I'm sorry but I can't understand why any Cas fans would be remotely pleased at getting Kear as coach!
The fact that Anderson and Noble seem to be in the frame shows how far we've come as a club and I wouldn't mind either of them. I suspect Anderson may have a bit more clout in terms of attracting overseas players but the way our club is going with a strong emphasis on home-grown talent that's maybe not the plus point it used to be.

| I was reading an interesting article regarding Matt Parish at Salford.
Most people are saying he is an unknown and has had no head coaching position. Brian Noble has kicked-off to the media about no pathways for British coaches and we are looking at un-tried Aussies.
This couldn't be further from the truth. Parish at 42 has had 12 years experience as an assistant coach. He also has the equivalent of a grade 4 coaches badge. Only John Kear in the UK has this level. Maybe its time for Cas to look at someone like him.
Peter Gentle ??

I agree, Kear is a big game coach not a season coach. I wouldn't be happy with his or Morgan's appointment

I was reading an interview with him and he expressed his desire of coaching in the NRL soon, all I could think was how p*ssed off I would be if I was a Salford fan and the first thing the new coach said was pretty much "this is just a pit stop as soon as the NRL comes knocking I'll be on my way"

| Lets be clear, that any TM, Dave Woods, Parish, Morgan, Gentle is only taking a SL job to facilitate an NRL job.
Others like Milward or Anderson may differ. That doesnt make it a bad call, but you have to be realistic.
I think we are not in the righ place for John Kear, and thats not bias or anything, I just dont think it is right for him or us.
I have made my views clear earlier in this thread, but the strange aversion to a person passing through is weird, there is only Wigan and Warrington at the moment can probably reject people on that basis.
