| As I said on the VT, I'd be happy to share at Glasshoughton - part of Wakey and Cas. The Wakey fans don't want that though.

Why dont you scrap plans on the UG site and go and share with Warrington or better still go and share with Widnes that way you could be the No1 team in that stadium and not play 2nd fiddle to the Wires. You know it makes sense if inter and ac can do it why cant you.

It's good to see you havn't over reacted! As I said if it wasn't for geography and it meant our SL survival i would. It seems some fans are open to the idea. You could have the No1 purpose built rugby league stadium in the country, host internationals and WCC, plus a stadium that is in use 25 wks a year as appose to 12/13.

Not really sure just whereabouts the proposed stadium is at Newmarket but if its in Methley itself then the postcode is Leeds. That might solve a few problems

As i said in the thread earlier, niether set of fans would go for travelling to the other population centre, leaving us to put it somewhere in the middle (normanton being the only option really), but that puts it miles away from both teams, which would inevitabley means some fans would be lost for both teams, it wouldnt really be a 'home fixture' if it were staged in another town, the only club i can think of that did that was swinton and it proved to be a disaster (would you be happy about your new stadium if it were in say prescott or newton le willows?) Plus theres nothing really to do in normanton (wheras if/when the stadium is built in glasshoughton it would be easier to get to and have more to do than any other sl stadium ie skiing, swimming, cinema, bowling, lazer tag, as well as dozen of shopstores, pubs and returaunts, and ponty races nearby too) and wouldnt benefit our respective economies as much as having the stadium in the town city. Whatsmore if we shared a stadium we might last one licence period after that we would either be forced to merge or we just end up reverting one clubs name whilst the other had to start again (sheffield, gateshead) as the rfl wouldnt see any point in two licences being awarded to one stadium. Cas and wakey fans is not a case of 'i would rather go it alone and risk dropping a league than sharing with our rivals' its more a case of 'if we share a stadium, at least one of us will die'.
Sharing would be the worst possible outcome for both clubs imo.

I wouldn't travel anywhere, unless it was in Cas.
If you take the club's identity out of Cas, then it's not Cas. Might as well call it Calder.

| Quote ="pyeman"I really can understand your frustration and the frustration of other championship fans, and although i can see the benefit of franchising (for instance the number of youngsters playing in sl this year has been impressive and looks set to increase) the idea of a closed shop where you are discriminated against due to your post code, does not sit east with me, for me franchising will only be ultimatley succesful if it puts rl in the position where it is strong enough to reintroduce p and r (ie a fulltime 2nd tier, enough money to give parachute payments etc). I really do hope that all rl clubs who are pursuing new stadia whether they are in the championships or sl get there new stadiums, whether they be wakey, swinton feth, salford or haven.'"
There are still far too many foreign players in the UK and i dont see this stopping, an easy way to get more youngsters in teams is to cut the quota, no need to stop P+R. franchising is apartheid simple as, i recently applied for a grant to Sport England for Selby Warriors, one of the questions was "does your organisation exclude any groups" if yes the grant is not for you. The irony to this question is the chairman of sport England is our own Richard Lewis, the man at the head of RL the organisation that excludes over half the clubs in the country from its top flight.
All the RFL are doing with the licencing system is paying lip service to the fans and championship clubs, at the next round they will pick the teams THEY want in just like they did last time, no matter what grades teams get. I would think more of them if they just did that instead of putting clubs through a very expensive and time consuming process

I take the point of the rfl "encouraging" you to merge, this is the worst thing that could happen and would put me off the whole concept of cas and wakey sharing a ground

On the other hand we could build a stadium for Cas at the site we've already identified and started work on, with community facilities including a swimming pool … meaning it would be used 52 weeks a year.
Just an idea …

We're not AC Wakey, they're not Inter Castleford. We're two different clubs representing two different areas. Why do people constantly drag up inappropriate examples from different sports, different circumstances and different cultures to try and justify crowbaring Cas and Wakey together?

| I remember reading somewhere that the Stanley site is about 3.5miles from both population centres - an ideal location if a ground share ended up being the only way.

I agree with you that it's annoying - and pointless. However, Cas and Wakey are in a unique position in that both teams need new stadia if they are to stay up in Superleague and both teams come under the same council, and no way can one council afford to invest in two rugby league clubs, no matter how different the communities or how strongly each identifies with their own rugby league club. Hull is different because one club has no worries with regard to its facilities and the other has clearly done enough to keep the wolf from the door. All other clubs are in separate towns and boroughs from each other, even though some of us are close to one another, so there isn't the same financial pinch on one authority.
Would it be possible for Cas and Wakey to share a stadium but maintain individual identities within that ground? For instance, by having a Wakefield end and a Castleford end, with separate changing rooms and tunnel on to the pitch and identical corporate and other facilities so that each club could operate separately within the same overall physical space? I dunno. It probably sounds dumb! But especially in this time of credit crunch, unless one club can find entirely separate finance and come up with a separate yet equally atttractive idea (which would compel the council to approve it), I cannot see how Wakefield Council can endorse and/or help finance two entirely separate rugby league clubs within its own borough. Apart from anything else, the council tax payers would go ape!

Aren't they putting any money into either stadium at all? If not, they will still need to give them planning permission won't they?

there will be some money input for the baths i believe, but basically it will be a private initiative, Outline planning is in place and the final design will be rubber stamped,
